A tip you can use to give it more illusion, is drill deeper in the back of the structure. So when you put the magnets in you can use a timber/putty to fill the remaining gap and give the illusion that there are no magnets. This is used heavily in products such as timber magnetic knife racks.

Nice project. A word of caution though - a lot of the lumber you buy from home improvement stores is not completely dried, so it contains a lot of moisture. This is fine (and even beneficial) for construction, but not so good for making boxes for guns. I started making a case for an antique shotgun, and I ended up making the box and then shelving the project for a while. I had bought all the screws and hinges etc for the project, so I put them inside the box for safekeeping. When I went to start working on it again a couple of months later, all of the screws and hinges which I had stored inside the box were badly rusted. I'm lucky that I learned my lesson by losing $10 worth of hardware and not my shotgun!

Add a magnetic cabinet latch inside. That will make it close perfectly lined up each time and keep it from sliding open when grabbing stuff off the hangers.
