The Tsar tank was made because the Russians found out that the Kazakhs had carts with very large wheels to traverse soft terrain or something, and made a tank out of it Tsar Nicholas liked the design so much that he was playing with the scale model, making the tank climb over stuff on his desk

They built one, then tested it - and the first thing it had to do was to have its rear wheel getting stuck in the mud. They managed to pull it out once, the second time the simply let it stuck in the mud and the wreck was scrapped in the early 1920s.

I mean mud has always been an issue, its more of why build such a large vehicle when its going to get stuck? Its not god awful for early designs but it just wasn't worth the cost especially for a nation like Russia

As a russian, there is decent history behind it. It was supposed to be tall enough to see across the plains and be recon and a moving fortress. But it got stuck in a swamp near present day belarus. The back tire had no power to pull it out. So it was abandoned, then later discovered by the soviets in 1926 and was dismantled for steel. Haha you got me at armor is bad the real one at 150mm frontal plate and 100mm on top.

seems like a problem of placing the tracks too close together. try shifting the sprocket’s x value instead of the road wheel, and moving the entire tracks outward

How about you make a ground turret or bunker tank thing, like for the Defense scenario! If you can, you could put it up against other tanks you have made but in that scenario. Maybe you could even make ground turrets out of other tanks you've made, kinda like the germans did with the Panther

Well, development of any kind of vehicle requires some experimentation to see what way it should go. Noone at that time knew what the best design for a tank is. Besides, there were failed wheeled machines under development in other countries at the time too (e. g. Treffas-Wagen).

The design is actually more sound than you might think, since the large wheels are essentially the same thing as a track, just fully circular instead of only applying the ground contact patch of one.

@@dos_gringos9853 I think, most of serious criticism, that I heard in regards of Czar tank boils down to spokes that connect wheel to axle allegedly being vulnerable to explosions and schrapnel fire, not wheels as such or even the fact it got stuck on trials (which possibly happened due to underpowered engine).

Well in the Flat Frozen terrain of the eastern front it would have been somewhat useful as a Unstoppable MG platform just don't drive it into Mud (but in the Western front this would be the most useless tank ever made)
