You should have decorated the interior of the hobbit-hole. The first lines of The Hobbit tell us exactly what a hobbit-hole is "In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a dirty, nasty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat.
