@@shalimarlake7852 yeah, he definitely cheated a little to make it look like it performed better than it does. The main problem is that the holes up top get blocked up, so smaller pieces can't get through. He'd need some kind of agitator to shake them up and allow the small pieces to get through the holes. Also, the "print only the infill for better flow" approach was probably counterproductive, since it would disperse the suction force over the whole surface of the filter, rather than suck pieces toward the holes. With some kind of basic agitator, like what you see in high-end shop vacs in order to prevent the filter getting clogged, and properly printed parts, this could actually work, but it would be way more complicated and way more work than just printing a few disks with cutouts.

I love this! My sisters and I used to have a baby toy that (when shaken) sorted various-sized mini-spheres in a similar-yet smaller- multi-level cylinder. You know what would be cool? For another LEGO accessory, people would love a plastic dome to house completed LEGO projects without having to destroy them, and which would simultaneously serve as translucent mobile cases, each molded to cover the entire [architectural] surface area, correspondingly. i.e., White House, Guggenheim, etc.

When I was a kid, my dad made me something similar (but a bit more primitive) to this: A bead vaccuum! :D He put two holes in the lid of a medium/large jar, put a plastic hose in each hole, and attatched one of the hoses to the sucking end of an electric air matress pump.. :P I could then use that to pick up all the pearls and beads I had dropped on the floor while playing with them! :D Honestly, witnessing all of my dads ideas while growing up really made me love invention and innovation.. ^^

@milomaz1
@milomaz1 2 жыл бұрын
I think 2 things that would truly take this to the next level would be rubber gaskets between each section to reduce the air slipping out of the space in between the 3d printed rings. And secondly a small offset motor spinning to gently vibrate the chamber would be great to make sure the small pieces don't get stuck on the ledges.
@jayspell179
@jayspell179 2 жыл бұрын
You don't need a second motor, but a fan blade in each chamber, which would turn with the suction, and keep the pieces from getting stuck. It could be 3d printed to mount onto the bottom of the component above it with a 1m steel rod for an axis. This is actually a pretty good invention, speaking as a grandfather with a grandson who has many Lego blocks.

A tromel would work better at the sorting. Have the entire tromel system inside a larger container(lego bin) to contain the vacuum. The in port feeds in the uphill side of the tromel and has a fairly fine mesh, then get coarse and eventually gets to lego sized holes. Suction comes from the first section of the tromel with the fine mesh. From there gravity takes over and the rotating action of the tromel breaks the legos away from the suction permitting them to continue down the tromel and be sorted. Bonus points, add a spraybar to wash the lego as it goes through the tromel. Also the original design is far too small and fills up too fast. Anyone who needs one of these has far too much lego for this thing.
@StephenKoplin
@StephenKoplin 2 жыл бұрын
Holy smokes this is a good idea. I had to look up what a tromel is, but this would solve the issue of losing suction as each bin fills up.
