I Built a Locomotive Simulator to Teach my Friends How to Run a Steam Train!

Hey everyone back with more Scrap Mechanic! Today we are building different train challenges so I decided to make a steam locomotive simulator! This is a steam train that requires you to operate it with a few different steps similar to how a real steam train would work!

This is pretty neat! My only critique is that brakes would be applied by slamming the lever forwards, as this made it easy for engineers to slam all levers forwards to emergency stop the train in the event of potential danger.

@@johngray8749 I think that was the point. You can't slam the old brakes, they need to be clamped with tools if I remember Hyce correctly.

thats not universal and differs from country country. in germany for example you pull towards you to slow down. (because the throttle is pushed away to accelerate)

Steam locomotives are so cool. I use to maintain a boiler for a company. Lots of chemical involvement with those to stop the inside from rusting and corroding away. As well as having to heavily water soften the water going in cause otherwise it causes mineral build up. As cool as they are firetube boilers are also scary.

Great video! I'm really impressed with how well Moonbo did! I think this was a small misstep on having Hyce be a special guest. As a Noob v Pro v Pro just that Hyce doesn't know this game but knows everything about trains!

There should be an advanced mode in railroads online where you have to use the injector and manage your fire levels If you don’t manage properly it’s starts taking damage and you have to get it fixed

I used to love watching your streams, like the time when you built the hover ship on stream and how it got me into scrap mechanic. I really loved all your hover creations. theoretically, a cold steamer would already have water in it, otherwise the crown sheet will overheat when you try to create pressure for the injector. I think the next step would be to limit the max speed if the johnson bar is too far in the corner.

True, you would probably never do it this way, but I think (most of my knowledge comes from Hyce's videos, so I'm not too confident) you could do it this way in theory, because the temperature you need to create a small amount of steam is way less than what would damage the firebox. It would only damage it if you need a lot of steam to run the injector, hence a lot of heat, hence damaging it. (though considering the damage heat cycling causes, this might be really bad over time, but that still depends on how much steam you need)

One problem.... You can't build steam pressure with an empty boiler. so you need to start the simulator with a full water glass.

also, the brakes rotate the wrong direction. the controls are arrange in such a manner ,that pushing everything forward stops the train (panic mode).

With anything steam powered, you want ALL OF THE PRESSURE but not to much, and ALL OF THE WATER but not to much. steam boilers are picky.

You know kAN, the biggest problem with this was that you didn't end up roping Scrapman and Moonbo into RO Cabeese Racing. If this sim was more accurate (as accurate as Scrap Mechanic could ever be) it would have totally lit that spark of interest in coincidentally 19th century US narrow gauge railroading and they totally would be onboard the CR&P. But no, it's sad that it was too complex for rails. It was pretty fun watching Scrapman just go for broke and...well I guess Hyce would say he ES&D'd. So you've now got to give him a cup.

The train reminds me of a train your see from train simulator 2000 and trainzs railworks and train sim pretty good simulators/builder's just that you may not get the acturole death screen just an error.
