Today we're making a huge tank that would probably never have been constructed in real life, but we get to play out the scenario in sprocket where a design like this could have been realised. It's not too practical in sprocket either!

Small correction Challenger 2's base model weighs 64 tons. The upgraded model with the add-on armor weighs 75 tons. For an 80 ton vehicle you probably want your first gear to be 12-15 to get it to turn crisply.

O-I Exp. with that 105mm gun and old 40kmh max speed was just amazingly fun to play. 40kmh worth of 100 ton tank could obliterate even tier 8 heavies in a head-on collision.

Would be cool to see one of the IRL multiturret tanks like the T-35 five turret russian tank - had two machine gun turrets (one front one back), two light cannons (one front one back), and a larger primary cannon on the central turret. Paper thin armour like most early wwii tanks, but very fascinating design! A true “land battleship”!

Honestly given that the Japanese navy was becoming less of a factor late in the war I imagine the Japanese tank forces might have tried putting a 5 inch gun from a destroyer into a casemate version of this kind of tank.

The O-I or MI-TO 150T is a interesting design as well as it’s history. There are reports that a prototype may have been built and trailed, reportedly the suspension collapsed while driving trials, there’s a single track link existing on a museum. This is one of those tanks that could have existed but bc no pictures were taken. Did also know the design of the O-I transmission/gearbox was just an enlarged Ha-go gearbox.
@cyonemitsu
@cyonemitsu Жыл бұрын
The design also called for bell crank suspension, which to support a mild steel chassis approaching triple-digit mass, was probably a terrible idea. The other thing to note is that the team who worked on the program steadily shed members as it became clear that the idea of this mobile pillbox was a bit of a dead end, so by the time they dropped it, there were I believe 2 engineers left working on it.
@standard-carrier-wo-chan
@standard-carrier-wo-chan Жыл бұрын
@@cyonemitsu The bell crank suspension was pretty much an enlarged Chi-Ha suspension. If that sounds ridiculous, it was, because you need to upscale it quite a lot for it to support triple digit tonnages, to the point of impracticality. Still though, the Japanese did an amazing job at keeping the tank a secret. The prototype that was built was most likely a hull-only prototype with weights to simulate the tank's actual weight. They said it was able to reach 40kmh on flat ground, but this might've been the hull-only WITHOUT the weights, because like, I can't imagine something around the caliber of the Maus reaching such speeds without some advanced engineering that the Japanese definitely didn't have back then.
@cyonemitsu
@cyonemitsu Жыл бұрын
@@standard-carrier-wo-chan Fun fact; the primary reason for heavy reliance on bell crank in the majority of Japanese tanks in WW2 (the one exception that comes to mind is the Ke-Ni prototype which employed Christie suspension), is that it was less of a burden on Japanese industry, whose primary bottleneck was, in fact, machine tools more than anything. Alleviating the demand for precision machine tooling allowed for realistic product output for war demand, as the precious few machine tools could instead be allocated to critical components or to other demands for the war. This overreliance on bell crank led to a multitude of problems once they began to move into heavier designs after the 1930s, and aboard the O-I it was likely utterly fatal to the design.

It looks more like the Ro-Go more than the O-I lol The O-I has two secondary turrets and one main turret then another turret for machine gun in the back. It was supposed to weight 150 tons. and yes it was built and tested although it didn't have a turret when they tested the mobility. The O-I was to be equiped with a 150 mm howitzer, with 47 mm guns as secondaries. It never mean to be equiped with 105 mm or 120 mm guns, that is just WeeGee fantasy stuff.

The odd but funny thing about sprocket is you can make the most effective and efficient engines on your tanks when in reality tanks mobility was always reliant on engines efficiency and how well it was built. For example if you made the Porsche tiger(vk 45.01 (p)) engine in sprocket I bet it would out perform the actual real life engine a unreliable engine so unreliable you can see a T14 that has the same Nazi engine as the vk break down on its parade debut. It’s a dichotomy I thought was cool to share.
@themera8921
@themera8921 Жыл бұрын
Uh, no. The T14 crew park the tank and put the hand brake on. Later they simply climb back in and get it to move on it own again. The laserpig video is fucking trash filled with misinformation it not worth watching.
@themera8921
@themera8921 Жыл бұрын
Also the Tiger did not have an X engine. It has 2 V10 generator engines. The Sla16 which was an X engine is for the King Tiger but the end of the war prevented that.
