I am into quilting, an in dire need of this kind of table. I have a 1120 singer, an older model and no table is made forr it. Custom tables are too expensive. So I thought, I'll make one and researched. Found you video and it was very helpful!!😊

I'm returning to quilting at 70. I too have been looking for an extension table. Since I also used to do my own carpentry, you have given me to incentive to make my own (and a pattern).. You did a great job with very few "misstep". It really looks professionally done. Please let us know how it works.

Not just an extension table but a beautiful piece of furniture! I think the light wood is best to be able to see your projects as you work on them. Oooooh quilting, can't wait!

Girl, I am super impressed! The extension you made is much larger than the one I spent big bucks for, and I’ve been wanting a larger extension. I don’t have any experience with a saw, but I’ll practice on some scrap wood until I feel comfortable
@SchnuckiLOVEbudgie2 жыл бұрын
I was more lazy than her. I bought a cheap bed folding table from the supermarket. The ones you use for breakfast in bed, It was only 5 bucks - a sturdy wood plate with foldable plastic feet. I used a hand saw to shorten the feet and cut out the hole to slide my machine in. Took me about one hour and then off I went quilting..... 😁

For those who do not do woodworking you could also use foam board. You can make card board legs out of card board folded into squares & hot glued to the bottom. Cover it all with contact paper to make it slippery. Most foam board is 20x30 and only a $1 at the Dollar Store. Don't worry if you screw it up, you are not out much! It you get it right the first time. It might cost you about $2 for foam board & contact paper. I suggest making a template from cardboard or poster board first to get it so it fits nicely then use it for the pattern to cut the foam board. You can double the foam board & legs if you need it more heavy duty.

Great job! Now it's time to make drawers for it, OR, just use utensil or desk drawer dividers to slide underneath. It's a great place to store those often used items we always need close at hand.

I made one for my machine from cardboard & Paper Mache. The only cost involved was the glue & sandpaper which amounted to a few dollars. It's as sturdy as one made from wood.. and no power tools! I even painted it with flowers & doodles then coated it with a glossy varnish. I already had the paint & varnish from other projects.
@alissagonzales7352 жыл бұрын
I made one from Styrofoam and glue. My brother used Styrofoam and glue when he made a decorated arch for a room for his wife. When she wanted to change the look again it took a small sledge hammer to break it to take down. Yes it is amazing how strong cardboard & paper mache can be if done properly.

@@alissagonzales735 I am not sure I undetstand the glue, do you mean you glued on the legs, or was glue used over the styrofoam? At any rate, what an interesting idea. @@EnchantedRoseCostumes I've made several extension tables for various machines, but used plexiglass. It's easy to cut with a jigsaw and comes with a removable paper protection layer, so you just draw your pattern on the paper and once completed just peel the paper off and doesn't need painting, only a quick sand on cut edges to remove burrs and protect fabric from snagging. Hint...sometimes plexiglass gets scratched at the hardware store and they sell it much cheaper. Small scratches will polish out with toothpaste but I don't usually bother because pins etc soon scratch it when sewing. You did a great job on your Spruce table and should be pleased with the results.

That’s brilliant!! It’s looks so lovely. When my husband used to travel for work he never knew what he would come home to. Once he came home to find I had ripped out the lower cabinets and built my own. He didn’t like the design but then did the job for years until he redid it all with proper cabinets! Then there were the animals lol. He got home once to discover a large cat had taken up residence. I asked the kids and a few friends we all thought it was a wonderful idea. Still miss that cat. Another time he came home to no wall between the kitchen and dining room and subfloor in the dining room. We were taking too long to agree on new floors and the dining room had an off white carpet! Our kids were were 5, 7 and 9 subfloor was much easier to keep up! He doesn’t travel much anymore and he’s ignoring the fact I’m ripping up the upstairs hallway to redo the floors. Then I think I will take the carpet off the stairs paint them and get a nice runner. Grandson still runs up and down so we need something for grip! I think I will have to and a table top for a couple of machines to my list!

Thank you for this video. I have started quilting using my normal sewing machine and looked at purchasing an extension table. You are right, they are far too expensive for what they are. I too am a little handy with wood, and had planned to make something similar, though I wasn't going to make it go as far as the throat like yours. I am now going to copy yours exactly, having seen the end result! When you are cutting wood or ply, if you put some tape over the cutting line, it reduces the splintering.

Gorgeous extension table! GREAT BIG WARNING TO ANYONE DOING THIS !!!! It is mandatory to treat both sides of any wood with the same finish. If you only paint/varnish/polyurethane one side the table is guaranteed to warp over time. This also holds true with plywood. An unfinished side will absorb more moisture over time than the finished side causing warpage.
