Hey yin! We use something similar to the ‘banana bait’ in Australia for bream (Not bluegill, something more like a snapper). It imitates a dying baitfish but the ones we use are not as thick as the one u had.

My favorite topwater HAS to be the Scum Frog, super soft plastic with an AMAZING hookup ratio. I've caught 3 pbs on it this summer. Also sub tourney would be cool, Virginia is a bit of a ride for me tho (NY)

You did not include my two favorite top water lures -- the Jitterbug and Hula Popper. I used both of these extensively in my teen years (1960's) and caught quite a few bass on them, especially early morning and late afternoon/night time.
