For your plans on naval battles you should use the magnets for proximity mines as well. Just put magnets on the ships that are always active, just one every so often. The proximity mines should have a bunch of sensors that once triggered detonate. You could also set them up so they stay at a certain depth, so they sit just under the surface or something. So when the sensors detect a nearby "ship" it'll activate the magnet then after a short delay explode. That allows for other objects to set them off like torpedoes zooming past. Depth charges are another cool thing you could incorporate as well. I'm hoping to see a destroyer and patrol boat in the future.

Now I do have but one question for you and I would genuinely appreciate it if you answered truthfully no matter how ridiculous or stupid the answer is. What part of my original comment made you feel as if it was necessary to teach us about magnet lore that had nothing to do with my original comment? Because the only way I can think of you coming to that conclusion is that you assumed I was saying that humans made the first magnets when all I really said was that we do make them. Seeing as you’re not capable of understanding my original comment despite its incredible simplicity allow me to break it down for you to more easily comprehend. “I love how humans make magnets” refers to the fact that we have been making them for some time. Never specified the amount of time and no mention of the invention of magnets is located in the phrase. “And some of the first things we think of are ‘how deadly can I make this?’” Refers to how some of the first thoughts humans had after starting the manufacturing process is how could we weaponize such a versatile piece of equipment. “And then kan is over here making a canon that will glass anything.” Refers to the fact that kan enjoyed spending his time in creating a canon (a device used to propel a projectile at dangerous speeds often resulting in damage, injury and death) that is so powerful that it will destroy just about anything. If you do still have further questions then I will be more then happy to provide answers but only after you answer my previous question. In case the memory of that question has slipped you and you’re too lazy to go back and read for five seconds the question was “What part of my original comment made you feel as if it was necessary to teach us about magnet lore that had nothing to do with my original comment?”

You are correct about the terminology of your clip. A clip is a object that holds the ammunition and where the gun will load the ammunition and the clip, into itself. Where alternatively a magazine will load the ammunition into the gun usually because of a spring.
@listerfeend2004 Жыл бұрын
In the magazine vs clip war, I believe you are correct, this would be a clip more than a mag. This operates MORE similarly to something like an M1 Garand which has an internal magazine and is fed ammunition from a clip. In this case, your breech is the "magazine"
@tommykj2 Жыл бұрын

@Charlie_the_dog Жыл бұрын
I was about to say something similar XD
@lucasvisser3864 Жыл бұрын
First of all, props for the correct usage of firearm terminology. Second, I'd say it's an en-bloc clip. Meaning it's only purpose is holding the ammo in place and a actuator inside the gun itself will move the ammo into position and is only discarded after it's empty. If only that thing made an M1 Garand ping when the controller gets disconnected. Lastly, I just wanted to point out something: Railguns use 2 conductive rails to dump a charge through a projectile that gets moved with Lorentz force. A gaussrifle(Coil gun) uses magnetic coils to pull a projectile through each coil.
@hendrikvoss9368 Жыл бұрын
its facinating that you can actually replicate this in this game. although i have a small issue with all this. What you built (currently sitting at 4:05) is actually not a railgun. its a coilgun/gauss cannon. a railgun uses electrified rails to magnetize the projectile instead of coils. These two are some of the most often mixed up concepts though because sci-fi shows and movies just use them interchangable most of the time. Keep up the good work and maybe build a maglev train to annoy hyce with :)
@dragonmasterlangeweg7625 Жыл бұрын
It's unfortunate that they get confused, because they are quite different in the way they operate and how fast the can launch something, because railguns use the lorentze force to move a projectile and the projectile must be moving before it comes in contact with the rails, and the projectile experiences friction against the barrel/rails, and in a coilgun it uses electromagnetic coils to pull a projectile, the projectile never comes in contact with the barrel, and does not need to start moving before being propelled.
@lucasvisser3864 Жыл бұрын
Ideas for improvements: Maybe add some stabilizing fins to the projectile for a more steady flight and maybe add a cardboard rim to the projectile that gets destroyed when firing. You'll be able to move around and aim down while the projectile gets held in place with the rim pinched between the chamber walls and the breachface.

If it were possible to reverse the polarity of the magnets (or fill gaps between them with the other polarity) then the magnets in front of the projectile could possibly be set to attract it, increasing it's speed, but it would require even more precise timings, and may not be worth it, considering you already have projectiles moving too fast to be properly rendered. Another idea would be using some attractive magnets in the back to prevent projectiles being pushed too far by the breach or falling out the front, which would turn off as the repulsive magnets turn on.

So essesially you just made an overcomplicated 120mm cannon Edit: don't sweat it, I mean my "railgun" in trailmakers also fires at mach 1, then it quickly decelerates. Besides mine doesn't have a breachload system.

19:00 Nope, you were right, it's basically an oversized stripper-clip like the kind used in the Mosin Nagant and lots of other rifles of that era. The difference is that a magazine (at least in handheld firearms) has a feeding mechanism whereas a clip is manually fed in. 21:57 That's not a Scrap Mechanic-specific thing, it's physics engines in general - because you can only check for collisions periodically instead of continuously like in the real world, fast-moving objects have the possibility to pass entirely through another object between collision checks. Checking more frequently is more resource-intensive and so generally restricted to the realm of very realistic physics simulations running on workstations or the like.
