Are you using water based stain? If so, then you should spray the wood with some water before applying. It really helps with the finish by getting rid of any leftover residue from sanding that gets stuck and causes that scratchy, slightly abrasive raised whiskers once the finish cures. I feel like I can see them here.
@dannylewisguitars2 ай бұрын
@@Arunnn241 yeah I did do a quick spray with water to raise the grain and then a light sanding to get rid of the fuzzies. I just don’t show much of the sanding process in the video because it’s boring. I also don’t use any stain on this guitar. Just an oil based polyurethane finish.
@Kaden-d9wАй бұрын
Just a piece of advice, don't be afraid to go super thin when you're shaving your bracing. Alvarez goes down to 5mm thick bracing that tapers to a sharp edge down the whole length nowadays. It gives the top more freedom to vibrate and you still achieve acceptable durability.

@dannylewisguitarsАй бұрын
@@derstadtwolf It’s acetone. It seeps into the seems because it’s very viscous. And acetone melts the surface of the plastic and then evaporates very quickly. The plastic dries and binds to the wood. It’s a fairly standard way to adhere plastic binding!

At 4:30, what type of table saw blade did you use to saw the top wood? Also, how large is the diameter of your table saw blade? 10"? I have to make a telecaster-style body top out of Hawaiian acacia wood and I have to resew the planks like you did for your semi-hollow tele.
@dannylewisguitarsАй бұрын
It's a 10 inch combination blade. I probably should have used a ripping blade but I don't have a dedicated rip cut blade. I also should have used a band saw but I don't have one of those either. If you're going to do it this way you should be very careful! It's not the safest cut in the world. take small passes and gradually increase the height of the blade. Use a feather board and a push block. You also might not be able to cut a board wide enough for a telecaster. If you notice, at 5:00, I had to add a little "wing" to both sides because my board wasn't wide enough.

Usually knots are not used for necks because of the potential to warp. But this neck isn’t a solid piece so hopefully that helps counteract some of that potential. Also it’s made of a pallet, so knots are inevitable!
