After building the main cabinet for my laundry I needed doors to match. Since I made the cabinet out of plywood and stained it, I decided to make the shaker doors out of plywood too. I used a kreg jig to make pocket holes and secured it with wood glue and pocket screws. It was a bit challenging since plywood has a thin veneer layer on top and the edges aren't finished...

I love love love that you show all the little mess ups- its so honest and so much more realistic!! I've been doing woodworking for years so of course have all these ideas for how things could have been different or easier but you did what you knew and IT WORKS!! Nice job!

Hey, you did great. The people who never make mistakes are the people who never try something new. And I always appreciate when people show what went wrong rather than pretend it never happened, and you instead showed ways to fix them and ended up with something great looking that does exactly what you needed it to! Successful build and great video!

The doors turned out good, mistakes are very well hidden. Like you said, there at the very top, will not get used much and not one will even notice the backs. And....you have experience now for other doors. FYI / tip - I've seen other DIYers, trim edge banding using the router.

I find making my own wood filler using wood glue mixed with the wood shavings from sanding ect from the exact project really helps stain matching

Tiff, just a tiny advice: The wood moves, plywood too! If you make this so tight it can cause problems later especially in humid environment! 8:17

here is an old timer trick. instead of wood filler that doesn't match, just take saw dust from the wood you are using and mix it with wood glue. then you have home made wood filler that matches the wood you are using.

Ive had that same experience with edge banding, it wants to tear along the grain, or pull your knife into the plywood and cut that thin vineer off. I think a utility knife a sharp chisel is the way to go with that stuff. Good luck with the rest of it

* Mr. Cardboard silently lerks under his tree, his tan acting as a barrier to hide within the tree's shade while plotting evil plans * I like the idea with the gap and the wood filler... giving me ideas for another short video lol! Looking forward to the cabinets. Gotta ask though if there was another house job and someone wanted laundry cabinets too would you do this project again or would you pass?
@diytiff
@diytiff 7 ай бұрын
It would depend. Normally I’m short on time and I’m not very efficient so I would do it for like a family member or someone close. I would take a break first after this laundry 🤣

You did a great job! The doors are a perfect fit. Having built plenty of cabinet doors myself, you’ll be surprised how easy the mortise and tenons are. Running the rails and stiles through the table saw (1 or 2 passes depending on the thickness of the panel) creates the perfect mortise. I’m excited to see your next build. 😊❤
@diytiff

Thanks! Eventually I want to try mortise and tenon. I was intimidated by it on this project, but eventually I will try it 😁
