If your opponent makes that many sensor towers, I think it might be a good idea to fly around a few empty medivacs as bait. That way, when you go for a drop (or even a doom drop), you might be able to catch him with his army out of position.

Not sure if this fits within the marine-medivac paradigm; but I feel like in a lot of situations in a game like this, dropping some mules to draw tank fire might really turn the engagements around.

sad you didnt deny the 3/3 at 18:00 - I think the biggest mistake in the first game is the fact that you, didnt take those bases that your opponent took and mined them out sooner. you could of took them and muled them out and saved your corner bases to mine last. Still a legendary game to watch :D!

Seconding that the fight at 18:00 is where this game was lost; not only the chance to deny 3/3 was passed up, but the time spent moving into the back base could also have been used to kill the orbital depots in the natural, which would have supply-blocked the opponent (or at least cost him a lot of orbital energy) for some time.

Marc play like a Zerg in that game, put reactors on your all barracks earlier, maybe build some more since you control the map. bank minirals for 3 or 4 x remax, and just flood the grinder multipronged til he dies.

So many times he could've spared a few seconds to stop micro-moving outside of combat just to heal up his marines was driving me nuts; all those medivacs just moving around with a blob of orange and yellow marines below them. XD

Yeah it's like how good his macro is. "I play so fast, that my medivacs couldn't heal the marines under them for like 5 minutes." :D and I play so bad that I never use up my medivacs' energy because my marines die before it.

@@kozatas did you notice the other guy was mirroring his movements with his own units? if he didn't, Marc would just go in and kill him. tho, i think he should remove low health medivacs from his troops and make them follow a marine. this way, they will heal them whenever they catch up.

I know I'm really nitpicking because I can never be anywhere near this good but the amount of times he loads up an entire medivac of marines into a medevac that's on the red health and then it instantly dies like f****** blow up your own medivac if you're making six at a time, or repair it. Who's going to sacrifice SCVs? I would have loved him to see him load them up in some weak medivacs and fly to one side and then when the guys army shows up because it's a bunch of medivacs he boosts in at a different part of the map with his actual army and the SUVs

I think in that Jason game things might have worked if you stole more of his bases. If you heavily mule mine his two most forward bases, could you deny him enough money that he just can't make anything late? Would only work since he's sitting in camp.

@@czcastell Yeah there was a point he had most of the bases and the enemy wouldnt come fight him because his micro was better. All he had to do was play a bit more defensive and run him out of minerals but uThermal doesnt like defensive play from what I can see. He would rather lose than sit around and wait to win, if that makes sense. It does make for a more fun video even if you are disappointed when he loses in the end. :/

Hahaha. I absolutely loved the dialogue on the mental vs real appearance of cheesers. That made me laugh outloud because it's so true. When you get cheesed, it tilts you so bad, you just feel trolled and that there's no strategy. Seeing a cheese executed successfully from streams, shows something completely different!

When doom dropping a Terran with turrets, and you know you'll lose medivacs why not make extra sacrificial medivacs and wait for marines to heal before running into tanks?

This game he certainly had extras haha, he literally killed some of his low hp ones to free up supply; I think that is a great idea to put the empty ones first so they draw all the turret fire. Easily would have saved 16 marines the 2nd time he dropped the back base.

I was hoping you would think of this: When you needed to sacrifice SCVs, you could do a SCV drop with a few of your extra medivacs into the base along one side to draw the army, or use the SCV drops to draw tank fire onto enemy troops. If you are going to sacrifice SCVs, maximize the possible damage, or draw the enemy out of position so your main army can crush a small fight here and there.

The benefit of mass marines is 1) your economy is absolutely insane, and 2) you basically have an unlimited army. The main weakness is that your army is severely limited in its ability to take on fights directly.

When you doom dropped early on you often lose the first medivac to missile turrets. Wouldn't it be worth emptying that one out or just having like 2 marines in it? It seems a shame to lose so many marines to turrets.

I love to see a ultimate turtle challenge, hold off in the base as long as you can without playing offensively. I can imagine this would be incredibly frustrating to play against with your insane level of skill.

I think you need to play like Zerg against Terran but instead of emulating ling+bane, you drop the mules to draw the fires from the tanks and you out macro your opponent. If you check at the TvZ, Zerg didn't out trade Terran but can expand much faster, and produce units much faster thus apply pressure much more frequently.

Just one Raven of your own, to launch an anti armor missile to their marine blob, would have changed the game. As it is not for damage itself, we could all agree that you can and should make it. The game has been awesome anyway.

Are you allowed to use your mules offensively in challenges in general? In this game, it seemed to me that mass dropping him with mules could have helped you draw some fire from his siege tanks, maybe even making him splash damage his own units. Would it have helped? I notice that you A-move with your medivacs often, even when you have red marines. If you a moved your whole army then selected the medivacs and Stopped them, they'd start healing so you'd have healthy marines. I've seen you deprive your poor means of that healing ray from above by needlessly moving the medivcas

I think the medivacs needed to be scrapped if they were red (or repaired and sent in the lead as missile-sponges) and the others healed (there were plenty of bored SCVs) because I think several medivacs got shot down loaded when they had no HP. Iono if there is APM to spare for that kind of management though.

Great game (I'm not finished watching it, though). Just typing what's going through my mind... Would it harm him more if you took out his orbitals? He's scanning you like crazy. Also, at that base where you kept killing his planetary, if you put a planetary there, it would force him to bring some tanks out from the other base. I think that could open up his defenses.

In game 1 when you have a huge mineral income and lots of production I think you should try and think like a zerg, i.e. remax immediately after trading you units.

Hi I have some questions regarding that 3rd game. I don't play StarCraft 2, but I enjoy theory crafting (that's why I watch u, interesting to explore how and why sc2 meta is that way) and here's some thoughts I had, would be happy if you could explain them 1a. It seems that beyond a certain count of marines, they tended to trade more inefficiently against the raven and tanks. If there was no danger of him breaking out the contain, would it have been better to split up your marine forces the whole time? 1b. Wouldn't it be better to trade inefficiently(or save as bank) than to trade out scvs? By that I meant dumping excess troops into the opponent. By having a very large production and large economy, you could utilise defence in depth where by the time your opponent killed a significant portion of your army and wanted to push, you were already maxed out by the time he arrives. Because opponent had fewer bases, what he relied on was having more units against few for efficiency I assume. Of which a split army would diminish that advantage (raven anti-armour Missle can't utilise aoe to hit as many units) And if he tries to base trade, you could have production split up across multiple bases, and as opponent lacks scans, because bases are gone, wouldn't be able to push through all of your bases, due to fear of ambushes, as vision is lacking.thus giving you enough time for production cycles to finish, and utilise your bank (rationale for keeping bank) From the game it seems like the opponent wasn't keeping much of a bank most of the game (lower eco, large army), meaning that without active mining, wouldn't be able to replace army, is this the rationale behind the drops? If so what makes you decides between continue trading marines in, vs making a larger army? 2.wouldn't it have been worth it to steal his bases while you had control of the map?(you had control for a good 8 ish minutes) (before mining from your own)

@UThermal: Would it be a good thing for Blizz to nerf Anti-Armor Missile to just 5 seconds? It seems to last forever, when it only needs to last 5 seconds. It would drain Raven energy more if it only lasted a few seconds, stopping them from spamming it endlessly (unless they are playing ALL Ravens), and making it more tactical. I mean, 21 seconds per missile is kind of a joke, imo. 5s is normally enough, 21s is pure overkill. Might be worth mentioning it to them and see if they'll change it. 🤔 I'm sure Protoss would happily agree, and Zerg probably would too. 👍

Maybe too many Orbitals? ^^ Massing Orbitals may pay out as long as the game doesn't get ultra long, but in the end you could have had 11 marines per orbital, so... maybe it would have made a difference had you built some Orbitals less ;-)

Probably not: the orbitals allow him to get rid of his SCVs and replace them with more army. 50 supply means you can do a major drop while the 'equal' armies are engaged elsewhere. Just a matter whether you can micro that much. The gains from that snowball effect can quickly outweigh the cost of the orbitals.

Hi thermy, at 30:44 since you weren't sure what to do, and you had so many medivacs, I thought perhaps you could shift click a medivac of marines to each of his expansions (unless they have PFs of course). Perhaps having to defend 4 points all at once would distract him enough that you could break through the front somehow. Also SCV pull to max out on marines

yo sick games just wanted to say you should make sure you always try and keep your gas under 1000 you had over 10k gas at one point and that could of been minerals also you could of dropped in the main earlier and taken out production and just remade your whole army easily if that 10k woulda been minerals

Hi uThermal, currently watching your first match vs Terran, wouldn't it be worth a while to use aggressive sensor tower strategy to prevent the other player tank move out ( which he has to if he ever wants a 3rd/4th base) ? sounds like using sensor towers you could starve the other player income.

So first off you're forgetting about the backbase, he was on 3 bases for a long time. Secondly, seeing that someone is taking a base doesn't mean you can prevent it.

It's a shame thermy didn't take that centre base earlier. There was probably around 10k minerals left, which is another 200 marines. Perhaps there would be room for another chance at it? Also, the top right base has 4 patches left, which is still significant. GG nonetheless. I hope we see another one of these epic games in this challenge before it's over

At 3:40 you mention bypassing the bunker in TvT. I've seen some terrain build theirs right next to the CC so it covers the ramp and mineral line. Is that an option? Also would splitting the army in 3 groups have been an option to stretch his slow tanks thin and give anti-armor missiles smaller targets?
