He made some good plays, improved, and gave Thermy a tough time. Great matches, and I can get being frustrated at getting beaten by a starting tier unit. This could make for a good IODIS frankly. Not so much that marines can't be countered, but they're a starting unit that's cheap and gasless, shoots up, has big DPS, reasonably fast, upgrades well, great synergy with medivacs and scans... I reckon if you could make only one unit, marines would be among the best options.

With all those orbitals you could scan the tanks that are spread out and fire mules at them so the tanks shoot each other and your opponent may unsiege to stop them from firing and then stim in with your marines to clean everything up. Lol.

1st Game is a perfect example of why rushing 2-2 is SO important. There is no counter to 2-2 Rush on Mass Marines. It seems in-efficient at first but quickly hits a HUGE timing that in midgame is almost impossible to beat without Coloss, Seige tanks or Banelings.

To be contrary, uthermal got alot of damage in before the 2-2 rines and his opponent never attacked once. Also his opponent never switched into high tank production against what he saw a mass marine army. Also as uthermal said his opponent never built a single sensor tower against what they knew to be a high mobility army which could be crushed for free with advanced warning. So yeah marines are good, but there's alot more going on then there is no counter.

If it ever comes to the point where you have to move to phase 2 in any matchup. I think building a raven for anti-armor missile would be extremely powerful if controlled well. Assuming upgrades are equal, minus 3 armor would be a 50% increase in base damage output for a marine, and if you can get a decent engagement with stim that jumps to 2.25 times the base DPS for a marine.

2 armor or 3? Anyway to add: interference matrix may be just as important. In TvT 'just' disable the tanks before running in (as well as BCs); likewise against protoss. Zerg may be the biggest issue there... not sure how ravens would help much against banes and lurkers? Banshees strike me as another option. If your opponent doesn't invest in detection or AA because he's playing against marines anyway, banshees could be outright cruel.

@@sorsocksfake You're right, it's minus 3. I was thinking of guardian shield which gives plus 2 armor. I'll edit my previous comment. I would argue that ravens would be the most effective against zerg, until the late game when vipers typically come in play, because their detection ability allows for small hit squads to constantly clear creep without using scans. Therefore saving that energy for additional mules. I think that if Uthermal were to use this he might limit himself to 1 raven at a time, so that this challenge doesn't turn into the bio version of raven/hellion to GM.

Hello! I am a new subscriber the algorithm threw your content at about 2 weeks ago. I haven't played SC2 since I was... I don't know, 11? I played for 2 years when Wings of Liberty came out and even then I never played multiplayer. Would you be kind enough to break down some of the lingo every now and then for newer people? Like, I googled it and it seems to refer to the next base right below the map, but apparently there can sometimes be more than one and it seems a bit confusing. Your 2 replies seem to have been deleted, so lets try this again. All bases are numbered in the order they are set down on the map, location INdependent (I find this weird, personally, but this is what I've seen from casters). They go: Main (the base you start with), Natural, what you could call your 2nd if you wanted to (typically in front of your main, but could be "at your 3rd" if your natural is blocked, or you could be cheesing), 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc. The number of bases up at any given time is a good indicator of the stage of the game you're trying to pursue (early, mid, late) and what units you're trying to get out on the map.

Question for you uThermal! When putting turrets in mineral line, wouldn't this affect SCV travel distance? Meaning 16/16 is not actually full saturation?

It does, but it only really drops it by a couple percent minerals per minute. I think the maths was worked out on TeamLiquid forums somewhere if you want to check, but basically it isn't worth putting 17th SCV because it spends most of the time re-pathing to another patch. In theory if a player had infinite APM spare to manually micro the SCV then it would get them ahead, but no one has that spare APM and over an average match the turret being there might cost 50 minerals which is nothing after 15 minutes.

Are hellbats still considered both mech and bio? It would be cool to see a series centered around super tanky hellbat compositions. Like you could use scvs and medivacs in your army to heal them. I’m not really sure what that would look like, it would just be cool if you could setup a composition with hellbats that just heal and tank like crazy. Maybe even drop mules behind your army for repairs if that is still possible.

31:14 I often notice you fly CCs to the base location instead of morphing it into orbital first. Is this always more efficient? I thought that going for orbital would be more effient since you morph it earlier into an orbital and have acess to the mule faster. on the other hand if you have oversaturared mineral line you can transfer faster to the natural and mine this way faster. Is there a general efficient way to do it?

it seems like with this style you need to win hard on economy. Like, you need so many bases and barracks that you can suicide move-command to get on top of tank lines, break them with their own splash, but then almost-instantly re-max on marines as if you were playing zerg
