The one you showed on screen (Ladybird) is actually a new browser, its not based on anything, its completely independent browser engine, that is actually really functional considering its in development, not even a alpha. I don't really know why it was lumped in with the other "browsers" that are just reskins of either Firefox or Chrome.

because they're virtually all the same apart from the engine and "skin" they have. They all do the same and add no extra features or UX to the end-user experience. There's no innovation apart from technical mumbo jumbo that doesn't mean anything to the end user other than performance, memory usage, privacy or taking a stance in the browser war. Opera, OperaGX, Arc and Vivaldi are the ones trying the hardest to create a new browsing experience (Vivaldi isn't really trying lol just enabling customization). That's the point of the video, to state that all modern browsers are boring because they hardly stand apart from each other other than at a technical level. Ladybird is more a statement than it is an actual piece of software: If you don't wanna support Google and you also want privacy, you use Ladybird instead of Firefox or Brave. What benefits other than saying "Fuck you Google" and a new engine (Oh wow now we have 3, one of which is Firefox's) does Ladybird give me? I'd say it's the fact that it's open source, being a real FLOSS alternative to Vivaldi, since some of it's code isn't truly open-source. It is "Source-available". Normies gravitate towards default options that come with their computer -> Chrome and Edge (sadly) People who want privacy gravitate towards browsers advocating for privacy or reskins/forks of other browsers that advocate for privacy -> Firefox, Brave, Librewolf, Mullvad, etc. People who want cooler features on their browser either get really into coding by customizing/modding something like Firefox or simply get a hackable browser if they really care about FLOSS and/or privacy -> Vivaldi, Firefox, (This is where Ladybird would sit in the future, considering it's FLOSS, and therefore the dev community will have fun modding it to death. It could become the OperaGX of FLOSS browsers). People who don't care about privacy and want a different browsing experience despite it being a proprietary piece of software just fall for any of these new browsers that may or may not be a reskin of another browser, but have shiny features to add customization, control and fun overall -> Opera, OperaGX, Arc

@@the1whoplayz same mid ass out-of-the-box features. also aren't Firefox and Chromium already open-source? as an end-user a new engine is nothing to be crazy about unless it's significantly faster or memory-performant, that's what I mean. it's just another Firefox. the way i see it (maybe I'm uninformed but I have no idea if they're promising anything other than the same baseline stuff that both Firefox and Chrome have), it's the same exact browsers we already have, leaning more into the privacy-side like Firefox does. So it's just another Firefox if you don't get technical (Custom engine, open-source, "privacy", same features). I may dislike Opera and OperaGX, but at least they try to be a different kind of browser, despite basically being Chrome re-skinned (Cuz Chromium).
