Two Hands and a Tiny House

Күн бұрын

I am building a two trailer tiny house and I made my own trailers. This video goes into the design of my trailers and what I considered when building them for a tiny house.
To see how I built these trailers, see this video: • How I built my own tin...
This video is not intended as a how-to guide on how to build a tiny house trailer. I only encourage you to build your own trailer if you have sufficient knowledge and experience to build it safely. These trailers have been built in Australia. Every country, state and territory has it's own regulations so some of this may not apply to you or be incorrect for your region.
Don't hate... educate!

I have no knowledge about building trailers but as someone that puts a lot of research into having a safe RV, tires, tow system and tow vehicle I really appreciate the information you shared here! This honestly felt more like a towing safety video than a trailer build, and I feel it should be shared for that reason. I also love the way you stated your disclaimers! Common sense all around! Great video! Looking forward to the rest if this build!

Great video. I have been doing metallwork in construction for a living and I really love your take on force distribution and bracing. I know from experience that sometimes it only takes a small peice of metal welded in the right position to give much more strength to a construction or brace it against specific types of force. You explained it so well and succinctly, I really enjoyed watching the video! Great job!

Thank you man. My father used to say quality over quantity. I was hoping to share what I've learnt about this stuff over the years to help others understand how to pick a good trailer. There is a lot of force on this stuff but understanding what's going on and the right bracing we can make it strong 😁

I'll be picking up a welding class next year and I've a friend that welds for a living. We are going to build a trailer for tiny house in starting next year. This has been extremely fun for ideas so I can ask my engineer friend too.

Love what your doing I live in Perth. Being a qualified bmw I reckon you done a fine job. I’d love to do one of these one day. My little work crew work out doors all through the rural SW. This would be a wonderful idea for crew living.

Cheers man. Yeah absolutely. I've spoken to a mate about a commercial plumbing crew before working intrastate. If you can make them towable with a Hilux, DMax or the likes you could move them from site to site

Two Hands and a Tiny House Hello mate, do you sell your designs for the trailer and tiny house builds ?

Are these galvanized steel… And secondly is this a mig or a TIG welder…I am completely new to this and I’m thinking of learning welding method. Working with galvanized steel. So would like to get your input as I like the little unit you’re using. Thank you
@TwoHandsandaTinyHouse
@TwoHandsandaTinyHouse 11 ай бұрын
Yes I used galvanized steel. Definitely MIG. TIG is great but far too slow and hard for this kind of project. If you are looking to learn a welding skill MIG is very versatile and the main method I use. Just take caution welding galv, make sure you have good ventilation, welding flu is no fun. It is best to grind off the galv before you weld but with experience you can learn to just weld over it (although it does slightly degrade the weld). That welder was just a remote to a larger unit. However, inverter type welders are so much smaller. I have upgraded to a Unimig Viper.

Great build! Im a Boilermaker in WA and it looks very well made. Im just planning a build now. Will the trailer width plus cladding make it wider than 2500mm maximum. Did you have to make trailer say 2450mm wide?
@TwoHandsandaTinyHouse
@TwoHandsandaTinyHouse 11 ай бұрын
Thank you mate, I appreciate that coming from a Boliermaker. Exactly what I did, actually I did 2400 to allow for 50mm either side.

Do you have to go get these trailers titled before you start building the house?

Yep! They passed inspection and were registered just over a week ago. I had to get VINs assigned and stamped onto the trailer before I could get them inspected. I share a bit more detail on Insta if you want to follow along a bit more 😃.

G'day, I'm no engineer, just curious. At 8:57 I note the triangulated box section immediately behind you reinforcing the front corner section on the right-hand side of the pic. I can't make out whether it is duplicated further towards the rear, or not, but would it be worth including it perhaps twice somewhere between front & rear of the trailer? BTW I love your work, you're extremely talented.

Thank you, truly appreciate that. I think I know the bit you are talking about and I like the idea. So for strength in the deck I don't think it will need it at this stage. The ribs are full with which means they are stronger than if they are welded into the chassis. The deck only hangs out 300mm 12" past the chassis rail so I don't think I'll see much movement. Also the side rail is 75mm 3" RHS and supported at the ends. Certainly bracing I can weld in after the fact if I see any problems though 👊

@@TwoHandsandaTinyHouse All good mate, you'd know what's needed as you've gone through the planning & build, I wasn't sure what I could or couldn't see. I've clicked the notification bell, but there's no pressure. ; )

@@CNile-se9xw it's a good thought. Tiny house trailers are so different to standard trailers and a strong perimeter is bloody important. 😝 no pressure huh? Making these vids took a week to edit. Might try to more smaller ones out

All looks kick ars. I would add gussets from ladder frame to the outer band at the floor cross bars. Looks like every other one because the cross bars connecting the ladders skip every other joist. Other than that your reasoning and attention to heat has kept the structural value of all parts.
@TwoHandsandaTinyHouse
@TwoHandsandaTinyHouse 4 жыл бұрын
Will give the gussets some thought. It is only a 300mm overhang but would defs make it solid af.
