Two actively-cooled helmets in two months. Challenge Accepted! Engineering these House Va'Ruun Zealot helmets + matching them to the rest of the Cosplay was quite a challenge - but I'm happy to add my little part to such a huge project!
Shattered Space is the first story expansion for Starfield. Explore a brand new, completely handcrafted location and experience the story of House Va’ruun when Shattered Space launches on September 30, 2025. Save the date!! :D
On Steam:

This entire project is a collaboration with ‪@bethesda‬ & ‪@BethesdaSoftworksDE‬ !
Special shout out to Calaidosphere, ‪@madsfive‬ and ‪@mistvein‬ for being such an awesome team to work with!!

you can paint car parts with spray cans and get a good job, but the white they used spattered way too much, and they sprayed it on the glass😢 and they didnt distinguish the teeth, making one of the most essential parts disapear

If it's some sort of refurbished pirate punk version, the spray can approach could be a solid start. But your quality build deserved a lot more attention. Masking, scratches, weathering to bring back the beautiful details and highlight the different materials.

The splattering is very amatuer and i dont think moondust forms in white blobs either. Could have been a nuanced airbrush job. The helmet deserved more: it was glorious.

I think you modeled all of it in Fusion, and I cannot imagine how much time and operations that took, some sort of modeling tips video would be awesome, haven't seen one from a project like this, really impressed.

YES I reworked this all in Fusion!! and BTW, every time I scrubbed to the timeline before all those holes at the top of the helmet and back, I would take a coffee break as the PC would still be computing... :D I swear, even with an i7 and 128GB of RAM, this project made me feel like in the 80's. Fusion is incredible, but omg is it a poor fit for my kind of cosplay projects :D

@Zibartas

Tried that, but it didn't eliminate the issue completely, so I just went with the capacitors :) It helped solve the brown-outs too from fan start-up (voltage drop) too.
@RichardThompsonCA
@RichardThompsonCA 3 күн бұрын
You could also place an opto-coupler between the fans and the microcontroller. It will isolate them. Anytime you add anything with magnetics to your circuit (motors , solenoids, etc. ) you need to isolate them or they will produce noise that will affect the circuit signals. Amazing project!

There's cosplay and then there's functional cosplay, those hidden ventilation spaces and modular components are 100% worth it. (That fact everything just looks and works is just -*chef's kiss*) I just imagine everything were luggage-proof and felt like a breeze for Calaidosphere during the cons. Couple of years ago. I did a budget cosplay of a somewhat realistic take of Gaster from Undertale with cardboard, liquid nail and LED. Did my best to keep it transport-friendly and lightweight, but it was really hard to not get cooked in the Aussie winter/spring where we have our cons. Would love to see you try something on absolute shoestring budget. >:D

Hehe! Thank you!! I think the raw material price is not even that high for 3D printed projects like this, even with prototypes etc. - by far it's the gruelling modelling and crafting work that's the 'expensive' part - you can't buy more time in a day, but you can buy more filament! :D

This is an incredibly cool build and must have been very satisfying to bring your design to life - but I am also very interested in the design element of the process which you didn't really cover. I would have liked to see more of the process of you building the 3d model, from sketches to the finished product. What 3d software are you using which allows you to create these satisfying "blow apart" effects to demonstrate the assembly?
@Zibartas
@Zibartas 3 күн бұрын
I use Fusion :) The design part is very-un-visual I feel, so I kinda ommitted that beyond showing the features that I ended up with. Just a bunch of hours working with an idea in mind, and fighting Fusion at every action cause the model has so many curves and tangent surfaces that is so complex to compute :D
@Ananggadipa
@Ananggadipa 3 күн бұрын
Damn, this is really cool! Did you only use Fusion 360 for designing this? How??
@Zibartas
@Zibartas 2 күн бұрын
Yeah I worked off of existing sculpt mesh the artists provided, and sort of eyeballed it in Fusion until I got the perfect 'clone'. Just a LOT of time and working around limitations... It's not a perfect-perfect-mirror-copy, as I had to reinterpret certain things and make it 'produceable' (with ventilation, lights, padding, and a person fitting:D)

@Zibartas
@Zibartas 3 күн бұрын
Thanks! I just spent a bunch of time in Fusion (learning it's limitations mostly) and learning basics on KZbin - I think most cosplayers master Blender instead though. Fusion is great for rapid prototyping I find, as every change is non-destructive - so it's much more forgiving to 'freestyling' it, and that's the approach I have to a lot of features :)

Not to "well ackshully" you, but I did make a seal-insert (for which you see a slot around the neck port inside the helmet) from lined, laser cut and etched foam that one must put in after putting on the helmet to completely seal any light leaking (or air coming in) - so mostly for photoshoots and exhibition. It didn't make it to the final cut, as well as some other problems that I had to overcome, cause I didn't wanna make the video too long :) but with this seal, helmet is completely sealed and affixed to the suit as in the reference, just a bit clunky to get in and not too "cinematic" to show :3
