Landing bay from nova is better for your configuration, removes that lower hab, and allows for the shield and cargo to be placed on the sides of the top hab.

you can build smaller and with a shield. use a longer ramp then you can put a long cockpit on the very front of it. that way the cokpit has points for shields and also the fuel tank fits there. it might seem counter intuitive to use a longer cokpit. but overall the ship is gonna be smaller. because you can put the components not only length wise but also sideways, that way you are more compact on a lot smaller footprint.

I'm with you on this. I think it's ok to add the slimmer parts to the side even though they do make it 1/4-1/2 dimension bigger but I don't think that's the metric he's going by. He's going by smallest part, and by extension no bigger than 1x1 hab as structures. Uder those conditions the longer bays take up 2 blocs worth of space just like 2x1 habs, he can't have that. It's a shame you can't connect that rear doc directly to any cockpits they make you use a hab or passage or companionway. To me compact means no longer than it is wide or tall either so..... what we have here is the smallest al dente noodle possible

You need to spend LOADS more time playing with the ship builder and touring the staryards . . . You can easily build a ship that’s 25 meters long (total) and 25 meters wide (total) without using any glitches and still have nice aesthetics. And if you don’t care how it looks you can get down even smaller than that

Yeah you can make a smaller ship with weapon room with basic parts. Just go with the starter bay with the smallest cockpit on the front and a hab on the back. Then put the chicken legs landers on the sides on the hab and 1x1 reactor and jump drive behind the hab and bay. Then strap some small cylinder engines like the White Dwarf 1000 on the sides of the reactor and a fuel pod on the back with a rear facing shield generator. That leaves you 3 slots on the top on the ship for a docker and weapons

Putting thew shield didnt break the configuration, it had that error right from the start, you need to pay attention to the arrowed connection points for entry to the landing bays and cockpits

I was able to make a ship with a 12m Fore/Aft and a 10m Port/Stbd. Use hope parts for bay, hab, and cockpit, Nova gear not the angled ones from the frontier), Deimos thin docker, and Hercules engines. (If I remember correctly) willing to post proof of it too

Smallest ship ive made with glitches is 24Long x 20Wide class c max speed 150 and 100 mobility, 1600 shield, 550 cargo/some shielded with jammer under shield, all weapons stacked on the ng15 landing gear and 2 suppressors under the ng landing bay. It can out maneuver any npc ship and has the firepower to delete anything

I am taking the engines from the Razorleaf and making The snubbiest snub fighter I can make keeping shields and three em weapons grouped together on one fire group. No missles or seconday fire group. I will just have to go wider.

Mine is smaller than this. Try the overlapping glitch, is is very useful with creating cleaner looking ships, more compact, and you can even hide the hard points, fuel containers, etc, within structure components. (You can also hide the cockpit, and still have visibility, kinda like a virtual window to the outside)

Hardly the smallest function ship design. If you go to Neon and the Taiyo Showroom, you will see an example of one of the smaller ship designs on their showroom floor. But even this is huge compared to the micro ship I can design. Smallest ship is just 14m long, 9m wide and just two levels. and it is fully functional. Which if you wish to put into context, this ship is the size of two 3x2 hab modules placed one on top of the other.

i was able to create a ship with 14m(or13m i dont remember atm) and 9m, with only 1 hab to connect the cockpit and landing bay. it has 30ly jump range and 100 mobility, 140 top speed with (i think) a shield generator and 3 particle beam weapons and has 140 (or 160) fuel capacity, only problem is that it has exactly 400 mass so i cant add cargo parts even tho there is space on the ship to do so, i can change the landing gear to the hopetech ones since they have more landing thrust but they look just a little bit bigger than the taiyo ones so i decided not to change them. but if changed you can add cargo and a bigger fuel capacity with no problem. oh and the reactor is able to power every part of the ship fully except for the grav drive with only 4 power, and its a fully class A ship, just needs a level or two in the starship design if i remember correctly

Oh man, not only is this not as small as you could go it’s not even as fast as you could go. B class engines top speed is 140. A class alone would have gotten you to 150.

Happy to see new builder designs but that ain’t small and helps if you learn where you can put stuff like for instance you can have a shield on the side a reactor and grav drives and fuel. Also using Deimos spines you can put 2 spines that have 3 gun positions so you can get 6 weapons with 2 nova wings you can put engines on the back of them and 2 weapons one on the end and one on the top. You can compact the ship to the Armstrong cockpit, 1x1 hab hopetech loading bay on the bottom docker on the top and have the grav drive reactor and fuel on either side then engines attached to that.makes it around 17x17

Nova bay is smaller that that. Nova 4 thrust gear is smaller that that. Tayo cockpit is smaller. There are smaller fuel tanks.

I actually managed to build a microi better ship.. only a lil more mass then u.. bout 400.. but i can mess up prrty much any ship that comes my way.. one huge advantage of miny ships is, u dont need much power for all ur systems, just one weapon type, and/so u dont have to switch around energy mid fight, to optimise stuff.. i just have shield, reactor/engines and weapon on full power.. par beam weps.. or the 3x 2power vangauard guns.. its great ;)

Even if you used some kind of exploit, or have a money farm on an outpost, you must have been sadly sadly grinding for a very long time to get that amount of money. Or you gave up on the stupid, dumb, time wasting design of this game, and used mods or console commands to give yourself that much money. No matter how many goods and valuables you accumulate, all the vendors in this game are poor. That means you can't sell any of the hordes of resources or items that you collect and accumulate, unless you travel all around the star system, walk super slowly because you're over encumbered, wait 48 hours for vendors to respawn their 5000 credits, and have to sell your higher value items for less than they're worth because the vendors are poor. Let's all stop pretending that this game is overall good in its vanilla state. I just got tired of the grinding and finally use the console command to opt out of the economy completely. My only reason for playing at this point just to level up my character. I still collect hordes of loot, which I use to barter for ammo, digipicks, and med packs. Of course, I only profit 5K per vendor because did I mention that THEY ARE POOR?!?! Sorry for my rant, you built a cool little ship, and it's a good video otherwise.
