The game NEEDS the option to walk inside the ship in the builder mode, so you can see how the interior layout looks.

And that to be available from the moment you want to buy a ship - also, to be able to see what parts are included in the build, just like you do when you go buy a car.. we only get a "number glimpse", but no actual make and model of the parts.

X-ray mode would be my preference. When you enter an interior in the Creation engine, it has to go through a loading screen, and every change to the ship would require exiting and re-entering the instance. If they could have a simplified 3D X-ray view though, that could be overlaid in the ship builder so you can see how it all connects and how basic furniture items like chairs, workbenches, etc. are arranged. That said, I’d prefer if you could do a “module editor” mode where you can pick which side the door is on, which furniture items are included, and cycle through some different preset layouts.

Lander Thrust is 200:1 ratio. 1 thrust for 200 mass. As you level up, I found not so much more powerful engines got unlocks, as you got smaller engines with the same power. When I got to level 57, I was able to retool my massive 9000+ cargo ship from class C to class B and gains mobility cause of the weight savings of the lighter parts. It's like at early level you NEED class C to have a powerful ship, but in later levels you can build class A and B ships that shred.

Only thing I would add in the part about modules not connected, if you can’t see it by just selecting all, you can select all and move the whole ship and the part not connected will stay where the ship used to be.

Love the game got like 500 hours in. I totally agree because they skipped on tutorials because they knew creators would fill it in and gives the creator something to do. Unfortunately, I think that discovering the game is discovering how to play the game and not finding new lands to occupy. There’s so much that this came to turn into. I hope it gets there between better discovery better Mabs better building star ports, so much stuff so much possibility. Hope it gets there.
@Axterix13
@Axterix13 7 ай бұрын
I don't think they did it for the creators. Rather, that one of the strengths of the game is the wide variety of things you can do, and if they put in tutorials for everything, it would get annoying fast. Added to that, the faster drives mean loading is near instant, so no real point to putting tips there, like used to be the standard. And then they probably further justified it by it being more realistic that way, and that players can get to an acceptable level without it (which they can, pretty much, but it can also be very frustrating when a player, for whatever reason, fails to hit that level). But they really should have added a computer in the cockpit of ships, as well as certain homes, that lets you voluntarily check out different things. Like how, for example, space suit resists work, or how much landing gear is needed per X mass. That sort of thing. We shouldn't have to go to an outside the game resource for this. Especially since most casual players will not do that. They'll play the game, and that's that. And while in their previous fantasy games this type of thing could be immersion breaking, here, it wouldn't be. It's the future, which means there should be a space-wikipedia for our characters to access. That there isn't, well, this, as well as the lackluster inventory management system, is probably part of why they had to tune down the effects of hostile environments and the conditions they inflict, because players wouldn't know and couldn't easily adjust to the situation. It's just another example of Bethesda being kind of bad at designing the systems we use to interact with their world-building.
@iameternalenigma
@iameternalenigma 7 ай бұрын
@@Axterix13 Oh I agree. A portion of my comment was in jest, and they can and should have made some early quests that essentially described the systems and how they work. i.e. the ship was damaged in the initial pirate attack and you needed to rebuild it, and as you do your companion/narrator/ship tech describes the basics as you piece your ship back together.

This is such a good video for new players. As someone with about 450 hours in the game, I wish a video with this simple explanation of shipbuilding would have been available way back when I was first starting. Most of the videos I saw went into very complex ways of min-maxing instead of just a simple explanation of some of the basics of the process like this one does. Great video! @@immasword and I'm only level 75. Granted I played for about 30 hours in my first playthrough and didn't like the skills I had started with and what I was leveling because the descriptions of what the skills actually do was so misleading. So I started over. And my 75 levels were actually earned through missions and side mission. The only crafting I did was what was absolutely necessary in order to build storage units and warehouses. So I didn't use any backdoor methods of leveling. I don't have anything against that, I'm just saying that the only reason I'm only level 75 in this playthrough with 445 hours in game is because I only leveled by doing missions and killing enemies and clearing dungeons/enemy strongholds. I'm sitting here holding out on completing the final main story mission Revelation just so I can try to level up a couple of more skills...and I'm trying something I heard about. I already committed to Andreja in her version of marriage, but I'm currently trying to see if I can romance Sarah and marry her while in the committed relationship with Andreja. I heard it works if you pass a high level persuasion check with Andreja. We'll see. So far my relationship with Sarah is progressing right along. We just finished her personal quest and she's reciprocating the love language. So there's that. lol.

One way to get early access to some of the higher end parts is to purchase the customized ships in a staryard. These ships can usually be spotted by the unusual paint scheme they carry. Some examples for each class: A - Warhorse from Neon, B - Shieldbreaker from New Atlantis, C - Narwhal from Neon. A lot of people will recommend the Narwhal as a purchase because it has a reactor with 36 points of power.

When ship building, remember that al pieces on screen count to mass etc for mobility, even floating bits you've moved away to play around. So when doing the storage and Mob went down to 91, that's because the part moved was off to the side. Delete them and the Mob gets recalculated without that mass.

I'm sure I'll figure it out. I'm still in class B. I learned that parts of the ship are throughout the 11 places. I was wondering why one thing showed up at one place but not another. I haven't dug in yet but will definitely come back here for help! I was just thinking the other night how nice it would be if the loading dock was on the 'front' since the game always puts you that way landing. The time saved not having to run around my ship ever time would be HUGE! (the ladder spot mentioned is an added bonus too!)

Excellent video. Truly. I had so many outstanding questions on ship building, and this video cleared it up. The only thing I don't think was explicitly mentioned in the video, is the landing-gear-trust to weight ratio; which I believe is 200. So for every 1 trust, you can handle 200 mass.

thank you, for your tips on engine power ended up taking the Frontier to upper C class trying to get enough power to add engines for above 66 maneuverability without error. The 4 sal-6830's did the trick up to 86 she's now the defiant small overpowered & lethal lol. I wish these special parts & where to get them were advertised in the game. I can see why the all-parts mod is so popular

Thank you so much for this video! I have struggled so much with this! I am only 5 min in and this is exactly what I needed!😅 next I need to see if you cover the different Living quarters I can never find the ones I like(have seen, but may also be limited by my levels)

As far as I know, your character level has nothing to do with your ship parts availability. Piloting and Starship Design skills are what determine your access to ship modules. If you put all your skill points into the tech tree you can unlock everything by about character level 15. Great video, I learned a lot.

I was aware that you could get your colors by moving the slider around and back to what it was but i didn't know that it puts all the colors in recent from doing it to one of them (I've been moving the slider for all 3 custom colors). You don't actually have to select the piece before clicking Left Stick however, you just have to hover over the piece you want change. I also didn't realizing that selecting all would reveal the unnatched piece. Great video!

This video should be mandatory for beginner shipbuilders. It's just that good. About the only thing in this video that needs further explanation is when he's talking about those Slayton Aerospace SAL-6830 engines. They are the best engines in the game, but are only available IF you complete the mission "All That Money Can Buy" in Neon, given by Walter Stroud, and you choose the diplomatic option to complete the mission. IF you pull off the diplomatic/cooperation solution for that particular quest, Stroud and Slayton will team up to develop the SAL-6830 engine, otherwise it's never developed and won't be in the game. So, do that particular side quest correctly, or you'll never have those awesome engines. As far as I know, this is the only ship part that's existence in the game, is dependent on what decision you made in a particular side quest. So, complete All That Money Can Buy correctly, or you'll never see the best engines in the game. FYI

Very useful, thank you. It took me days to work out why I couldn't access the new habs I'd installed - I didn't realise you had to join them properly. I do think the shipbuilder is unessarily finicky and complicated though - it does my head in.

What I learned from this video is that the engine I should have been using is a quest unlock. And here I was thinking I just slap six SAL-6330s on my ships and can call it a day. Thanks for the learning opportunity!

I needed this last night, I spent an hour and a half rebuilding the Mantis with a new cockpit and everything. Didn't realize it had a Taiyo landing bay that only enters horizontally, no ladder up into the ship as I designed.

Very well put together video with great tips. I was just thinking about trying to build a ship instead of just make a few modifications, now that I have leveled starship engineering to 3 and can get some good stuff. made a page of notes to refer to when I start. Also some great comments with a couple more good pointers.
