I thought I was in the middle of a mid 90's cyber thriller such as 'Hackers" for a while. Nothing says professional machinist like making a tool build feel like an epic heist with the world at stake. Quite the adventure.

I love it! Last year I was in need of this exact tool and all that was available was one made of mostly plastic and broke after only 10-12 uses...Chinese crap! I've seen vintage ones made by Toledo here in the U.S. but none for sale. Yours is what I call industrial grade, built to last forever, I'm jealous! Thanks for the video.

3:23 is a really cool shot, where the "idle" RPM line up exactly with the camera's shutter and the cutting slightly reduces them, making the part "move" and after the cutting it's back to being in sync. No idea if that was intentionally, but it's either way a really cool shot.

Very nice. What you should do is make one just like that where you can put a roll on the other side feed the Roland set the numbers to a certain footage and when it gets to that footage it cuts automatically.

Now that I think of it, you could easily make a small device that pulls the rope with 2 rollers and measures the time between when the wire enters and when it exits. With the rollers rotating at a constant speed, it could easily and quickly calculate and display the length automatically. You could then add a cutting tool to the device to cut preset lengths.

Useful tool. Used one of these devices when wiring control panels. Set it up to pull 2 to 4 wires at once from the spools through 3 panels plus conduit. Reduced time, prevented the wire from coiling after cutting. Was more accurate and resulted in less fumbling, kinking, tangling and recoil than stretching and weighting or tying to hold in place then measuring with a 25' tape measure then cutting and having to walk it back and pull through the conduit thereafter. Definately saved a lot of walking back and forth!

There could be a pair of rollers, both rotating to pull the wire in automatically or via button. The length can be quickly displayed digitally. A cutting attachment can cut preset lengths.

In anyway its good job. At big factories and high demand orders it is using of wire length encoders. Of course project with optical encoder needs microcontroller and some skills of coding, but it gives to you precise of 0.1mm or even less.

I wonder, why didn't you do a cam instead? Ergo, put a small ball bearing on the end of that counter arm instead of the spring, and then have a eccentric cam that pushes down the arm instead. Would give more reliable operation as operation is then no longer dependant of the wear/health of the spring. Another thing that I think you should do, is some sort of detent in the roller assembly, that will make it easier to find the "0" position, since if you start rolling when the roller have already gone halfway, then it will start counting like 1 cm for 0.5 cm of wire, so by finding the position just a degree after it have advanced the counter 1 step, if you make a little detent there - could be a magnetic detent, it will be easier to set it up for even more accurate counting, as you will then always start with a full turn before counter advances 1 step. (Operation would then be: Rotate roller by hand until detent, then reset counter to 0, and then feed wire into roller)
@izybit2 жыл бұрын
They don't do electronics, they do "electrics" so they don't really care if it's off by a couple cm here and there.

How does this accomodate different wire diameters? How is slip not happening in the rollers?
@addictedtoair13512 жыл бұрын
He minimize the slip by making roller's surface rough
