Ovens Rocky Mountain Bushcraft

Жыл бұрын

Greg sets out into the Canadian wilderness with an idea he's had since his first time on History's Alone... Turning his regular recurve bow into an EPIC bushcraft crossbow!
Greg is a self-taught survivalist from Canal Flats, British Colombia, who, since he was a boy, has read nearly every book on the topic. When he is not out in the wilderness, he is a professional dry-waller. He started his first bow drill fire when he was thirteen and spent the next forty years learning bushcraft and studying plants and edibles. He has even developed some of his own survival techniques and is a skilled hunter with both a bow and a slingshot.

I have never been a rich man so there have been a lot of times that I wouldn't have money for something I needed, so I would build it. To this day I still build and I am 71 years young. That"s how I became a metal artist. So I love the videos you do on Bushcraft. I consider anyone that can build for their own needs a self made engineer. You are an awesome teacher my friend.

I'm a little late to this party but I'll comment anyway - I was camping in the backwoods of North Central Idaho and there's no internet here. Summer comes late up here and the temperature dropped below freezing most mornings. Anyway Greg, I always learn a lot about trigger mechanisms from you. The deer still haven't lost their winter coat up here and they don't seem to have any fear of humans. They come into camp every morning and evening at the same time - they seem to be coming down to drink from the creek. Then they'll stand and eat or play just a few yards from my fire with their ears turned down - indicates they sense no danger. They just stand there looking at me. One evening, one of them woke me up - she was licking the sidewall of my tent. Gosh knows what she tasted on it - salt maybe. Oh yeah - there's lots of ticks here. I like seeing the deer around because it indicates there's no bears around. Don't you just love being out in the woods and away from all that concrete!

Throwing an idea out there, I bought 2 pull knives for pulling bark/level planes and curved planes. I think there is a lot of use in them. Just like having a small wood chisel. Saves energy and time= life saver. Rather not make so many mistakes with just a knife and hatchet, but still doable. Awesome Job! I really enjoy woodwork. More branches in small area of wood= strength (for handles or wooden mallet for example).
