I met dodie about 6 years ago. My wife had recently died and the great algorithm presented me with dodie's video "She - original song || dodie" (Sep 27, 2014). I still break down and cry when I hear it but it soothed my damaged heart as did other of her songs. Since then, I've gotten to know and care for her from afar like so many others. I share some of her mental health struggles, her sense of beauty, her confusion at certain things in life. What is my favorite thing about her? God, there is so much -- her authenticity, her compassion, her willingness to share with all of us, her music, her gentleness. And no, I'm not putting you on a pedestal. Hey so I was thinking about yesterday's video and trying to describe disassociation to people who haven't experienced it and I've come up with a few ideas that you mind find useful Emotionally colour blind Like you're in a play without the script You're in Madame Tussauds Feeling drunk or kind of sleepwalking Like you're in a fish tank or a bubble Like you're walking around France Feeling desaturated/ pastel etc. Like trying to smell/taste food when you have a cold Faded or ethereal Like lettuce that's lost the crunch (needed to shoehorn a lettuce reference) Like one of those Roman statues with the paint worn off Like a cave, hollow, echo-y Like a pumpkin with the guts yanked out
