Congrats Shalom!! Most of my African girlfriends came as students (medical or science) and received job offers to stay. A few married American ot African men & stayed under the process of getting Naturalized. It is a difficult process no matter what for African, Arabic, Korean, Chinese/Taiwanese, Japanese, Mexican, Eastern European/Urchaine or Molodova friends. Only Canadians & Western Europeans have easy access in and out of the USA. That is why I tell many Black Americans (esp women) they need to travel more & realize they are blessed in opportunities, education, housing & the freedoms of life. Delia Agbozo no, that’s not what she said. She could not travel for most of the time she was here because she wouldn’t have been let back in. I understand that maybe for a short time she could but chose not to. Mexico, Canada, a lot of the islands do not require a visa for a person who is a permanent resident of the us... regardless of their citizenship... if it was a visa issue she would have chosen those countries... there are also a few countries like the Maldives that’s visa free for everyone... so that’s not what she was saying.

Cherry chia Thanks for the clarification, but as an immigrant myself, I know exactly she was saying. It also took me 12 years to get over my fears of leaving the US and thinking will I be allowed back with only a green card. It is the fear of the unknown that keeps us from leaving these shores. I have 2 family members who were not allowed re-entry with permanent residence cuz they stayed more than 3 months outside the US. I went to London early this year with my 2 sister, one of them still a permanent resident for the past 28 years. On our return, my older sister and I went through customs with no issues. She was detained for an hour before being released and we had only being gone for a week. We live and learn.
