Interestingly, I rode the new XSR900 and MT10 SP (new gen) the same day back to back. MT10 SP was first and I noticed it was massively better than the old gen. For reference, I test rode the old gen twice and didn't like it at all. The new gen has much better tech, cool intake noise, comfortable, SP suspension felt good, up/down quickshifter was nice but still felt heavy and cumbersome to me. Hopped on the XSR900 and everything felt tighter and more direct. More playful, less bulky, still very comfortable, stock exhaust has a nice note to it, tech just as good as the MT10, and I liked the look better. Outside of the additional power and possibly a little more comfort for long distance touring, I saw no reason to go for the MT10 over the XSR900.

XSR isn't under-powered. And with that bombshell: money is saved on tires, insurance, fuel, oil, potentially service costs. I bet some aftermarket upgrades are going to cost less, like a header pipe. There's about one 1L naked bike that rides the ragged edge of diminished returns for cost, that being the GSX-S1000. Everything else (MT-10, etc) cost a LOT more to get that 5%-of-the-time thrill when the cops aren't looking.

XSR 900 has my vote. The lack of wind protection on a naked bike doesn’t bother me unless I do more than 20 mins on the highway. Which isn’t where I want to ride regardless of wind protection. Multi day trips with my buddies where we spend most of our day between 30-80mph on back roads, I’ve never wished I had wind protection. I ride a Triumph Speed Twin 1200 and I ride it rather spiritedly (Ohlins suspension helps).

2023 Blue XSR here.. Thrilled with mine.. went Big Bagger for a few years, so great to be on such an agile and quick bike! The Engine/Frame integration is total genius.. a glorius chunk of black. No Fins.. 3 cylinders is narrower than 4.. very compact.. just about perfect. My 3 cylinder 2 cycle H2 was wider with the fins. A 4 cylinder was very wide with fins. The Quick Shifter really is Yamaha's crowning achievement here. This is the "App" like adaptive cruise control and lane keeping. Absolute perfection. automatic transmissions in performance cars are OBSOLETE now. The new mustang has "Rev Matching", but you STILL use the Clutch! Totally missed the boat.. For sure requires a new manual transmission, but we don't need no stinkin' over complicated Dual Clutch crap. Easy half a second in the quarter (In a car).

@@markhall3434 quick shifters imho are a matter of convenience more than anything unless you're doing some serious competitive racing. I have a new xsr900, with a tune, full exhaust, and filter, it's running 130bhp. With the additional weight saving over an MT10, which is around 20kg, and 25hp difference, it makes for a more enjoyable bike for me personally. The only thing i like about the MT10 is its engine but couldn't ever buy one due to it's god awful looks.

I had a 10 for two plus years and it’s one of the best bikes I’ve owned. My xsr900 is highly modified, and though it’s 5 years old, I wouldn’t trade it for any bike. The only thing the new one has that I find interesting is cruise. I have that with my tracer, so….

I did a 1000 mile butt burner challenge on my 21 MT09 SP. Don’t settle. A plastic windscreen should not determine the bike you want to buy.

With your MT10 as you wish, and it has a quick shifter.. you got to go MT10.. If it didn't have the QS, might be a different decision. A Quick Shifter is the VVT of DOHC, gotta have it. Cruise control to boot, but not a big deal for me.

My decision would have been based on insurance for me. In California XSR 900 @ $45 a month, MT-10 @ $320 a month for me.. so yeah.... LOL!

I am a owner of mt 07 and i am thinking xsr 900 is better looking of mt 09 2022 and better performance from mt 09 2020.. so xsr 900 it will be a perfect choice... Mt 10 is a quite big and a lot powerful for every day!!

The blues ok, kinda mad they stopped offering the xsr in black. Yamaha...go figure

The travel of the wheel is designed so that you need to rotate your hand just a hair backward to have your press in line with the wheel. Yamaha did this on purpose for safety reasons. If you press it not lined up with the action of the button you’ll roll it every time!

I currently ride a Harley Sport Glide. But I miss the different riding style my Street Triple had. Plus I don’t know if Forward controls are for me. It’s comfortable, but makes my inner thighs hurt. Now!! Harley have come a long way. The upside down forks on my bike make it SO much more “flickable” than other Harleys. That being said. I think I would choose the MT-10 as well. Just the versatility alone would probably sway me. I also do not enjoy a twitchy throttle, but could get used to it I guess. I like the Speed Triple and the BMW 1000 S as well though.

I wonder how long til Yamaha releases an xsr 1k. I get the vibe chase would choose the more powerful bike despite what he said about being more reserved as he has aged.

Stole every word out my mouth! Especially at the end, where you talk about riding through every season and situation with your 10. 30k and almost four years of ownership and I can’t believe how much I still love it. Perfect? Nope, but it’s got charisma and a fun factor that endears it to your heart. It’s my bike-wife. I’ve spent time on an MT-09 SP, and as great as that bike is, it doesn’t even come close…

XSR all the way. Now if I could only find one that's not marked up by like 6k. I just can't do the MT looks. I must be some sort of weirdo but I couldn't care less about what type of display the bike has, I'm never looking at the thing.

I got mine for the same reason. Wanted an MT, but couldn't deal with the stupid bug-eyed cyclops look. Took 3 months to get an XSR, but the bike was well worth the wait. I have no idea why availability is still so bad, doesn't seem to be the case for the MT... I hope you find one, good luck👍

@@dsofe4879 thank you! At this point I'll probably wait for a used one. Here in SoCal the dealers are price gauging like crazy.

I own a 22 MT 10, which has the electronic goodies and that big, bad ass motor, set up for sport touring with a flash and link pipe. I will take that over the xrs900 any and every day. XRS is a very nice ride, but can’t really compare to the MT.

Agree on the sound of the MT10....mostly. The RSV4/Touno sounds a little better

I just bought a 2023 MT09. I was hoping all the MT models parts and the tracer parts were interchangeable since they seem to share the same basic frame and engine.

good video, I have the xsr900 myself and I am completely in love with it, I was just wondering what do you think of the saddle? I found it too hard myself.. I had it reupholstered and thicker padding in it. thanks for the video.

OC. Current 22 xsr900 owner. Love the bike. Think the name is too much. Xs9 or Sr9 would've been ideal. Never considered the MT. I was a fan of transformers too, the original animation and toys, not the live action cgi atrocities. I'm also a generation out on understanding the appeal of Pokémon so neither screen really appeals. Would've preferred a square / round offset combo to keep the early 90s aesthetics, show digi menus and a big sweeping needle, plus it would help fill the weird gap between it and the headlight, that is awesome but the lens seems like its a half size too small. If it had two like my 99 speed triple, or if it had a chrome beauty ring around the edge that might help. The black surround does some optical shrinkage illusion i think. I do kind of enjoy the white to green to orange tach sweep though so I'll manage. I don't get the jog wheel hate but youre not the only person to mention it so my hands must just be weird. I was disappointed you didn't mention gas mileage on the SR9 as a positive or negative in comparison to the MT. I seem to burn through tanks fast, but I don't know if its just me. Great videos.

are those sporty looking bags available for the xsr900?
@Love4boost Жыл бұрын
Maybe it’s just me. I don’t mind the screen or the menu selector. I only look down at it to check my speed when I see a cop. Personally I can’t choose the XSR over my MT-09 even though I want the cruise control. If I would’ve found an SP at the time I would’ve preferred that but I’m not disappointed with the base trim at all.

Hey Chase! I bought the XSR 700 last month and Yamaha doesnt have any retro looking bags for it. Can you ask them why or when? haha They used to sell ones in leather but they discontinued them a year ago. It´s a shame honestly By the way, XSR 900 is just PERFECT

Saw an R1 2020ish.. I think it was a R1-M.. Gosh Golly.. the RADIATOR is HUGE! Full frontal area between the fairing halves. Probably 2.5X the area my Blue XSR9 like this. Does your MT10 have a radiator like that? Guess that's a good thing to have a radiator that big if you need it. What twice the speed (RPM) is 4 times the Friction I guess?

Get a Tracer9GT, Chase.. ;-) It has CP3, it has that prolonged swing arm, it keeps a bit of that transformers style and it's completely made for travelling.. I have bought one and I'm absolutely happy with it.. It checks all the checboxes I ever wanted a bike to check.. :-)

Duke 390 has better screens than Yamaha at less than half the price. I almost bought an XSR 900, and went Speed Twin instead. I still like the XSR a lot though. No interest in most the MT line. So ugly.
