Does anyone know how remote Bella Bella actually is? It's a boat-in or fly-in only location, half way between Prince Rupert and Vancouver. It takes considerable effort to get there. The wide spread legacy media coverage of this only shows what a set up it was. This was to be a browbeating and public shaming, full of emotional exploitation. This boo-hoo-hoo for me victim mentality of aboriginal people has to end. It's not helping anyone.

I think treating myself as a victim is how you let your abusers win. The best way to stick it to someone who tries to get you down is to be successful and happy. Everyone has opportunities in life to be the victim, but spending your life as a victim means you let someone else ruin you, which was likely their goal and why they were abusing you in the first place.

From what one reads the police who arrested them were doing their job. The chief of police came to offer apology for mistaken arrest. He’s the owner of the dogs. But no the tribe want the dogs to come and won’t accept the apology of the owner. It looks as if reconciliation is a one way process unlikely to ever be achieved.

Well I think it's disappointing it happened at all. I worked in retail nearly more than fifteen years and occasionally people came into the store with an Indian status card and wanted a tax exemption and the first time it happened I had never seen one before either but I did not call 911 and assume they were liars I asked a coworker how do I process this discount if I had called the cops I would have expected them to ask if I knew what country I lived in and was I aware we have Indigenous people and different forms of identification not be stupid themselves and not even verify the legitimacy of the accusation.

How is a public shaming of two men a healing for anyone? I don't want reconciliation because my kids are part native and they are Canadians and racism has never been part of our lives. Russia invaded Ukraine and the world is watching but nobody is watching Canada's issues with the natives because there is no end to the story. 50 years from now it will still be going on. Personally, I don't know if I would have shown up either. This is because the incident happened between the grandfather and granddaughter, not with the community. Having a ceremony with their entire community there is literally just to display triumph and have revenge over the VPD which is definitely not what an apology ceremony should be. What would be more appropriate is if the officers met with the grandfather and granddaughter privately, say their home, and offered a meaningful gift and personally apologized to them and possibly sitting down and listening to the impact the arrest has made.
