I can't believe I caught this fish. I have been searching for a flathead catfish for years. It finally happened in early march on Boone Lake, Tn.

Nice flathead, but inbound lake their are catfish that make that one look like a minnow. Huge cats in boone lake

Nice Video, I love thos Flatheads. One 30-50 lbs imho is the hardest fight freswater fish out there. Just beast. nice job.

@@MichaelKaal-TriFisher all over here. we got a creek here in town that you can cast across with a small reel and it holds 50 lbers. norm in this small creek is 15-30lbers but it does give up an occasional 50 lber. creek is maybe 30' wide. I grabbed some 30-50bers in a local river here as well last spring. respect to Hannah Barron on this as it is/was a battle.

3/14/22 Boone lake. It was looking like a nice afternoon ahead after a surprise wintery weekend. The solar-lunar tables also said it will be a good afternoon, for what they are worth, I am not sure… Right after I put the kayak in, I saw a great blue heron taking bait fish. This was another sign of a good afternoon ahead. Another kayaker that just put in a head of me pulled in a 3.5-4 lb smallmouth on his first cast. I took his pic and sent it to him. Sunny, no wind, and temps heading into the 60s. Gulls were hitting outside the cove. Some fish on the surface here, but I was after stripers. So I made a determined paddle to get to the stone wall cliffs; that only took 40 minutes this time. I worked along the cliff to where it gave way to “beaches” and homes. Pulling my Yak along slowly by casting a redfin where there was surface disturbance. I went around the bend a bit, then crossed the channel to the stone cliffs on the other side where gulls and cormorants were feeding. BAM, ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. I had a big fish on. The fish ran and towed the yak along. It was a fun struggle, fun ride, and I pulled a striper into the Kayak. My first! It was getting a bit late (no lights, long paddle back) but I needed to hit this hole some more. 20 minutes after rerigging, another fish hit and was just stripping off drag. This fish did not tow, but wanted to go down into the 100 foot hole. What a battle!. This time I landed a hybrid/wiper( UPDATE both were stripers). So blazing exciting. Two fish longer than my legs and so fat from pre-spawn gorging. I am catching these fish because of Tri Fisher, @Michael Kaal . Michael, remind me again where I can make a contribution so that you can provide more videos to help me fish better? I don't have much to offer, but I'm sure anything would help. Also, I am beginning to believe the solar-lunar tables.

I e-mailed some a pics and crummy video. I think they might be two stripers, but I'm not sure with my limited experience. I thought mostly solid lines, striper. Mostly broken lines, hybrid. But they were both very large fish, and more streamlined from nose to dorsal.

what size hook do you us and how long a leader do you us

I usually use about 2-3 ft of floro leader. I also use stinger treble hooks in various sizes depending on the size of the bait.
