Mad Max is an action-adventure video game based on the Mad Max franchise. Developed by Avalanche Studios and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, it was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in 2015. Feral Interactive published the game's macOS and Linux versions. In the game, players control Max Rockatansky as he progresses through the wasteland building a vehicle, the "Magnum Opus", to do battle with a gang of raiders, led by Scabrous Scrotus, and to reach the storied "Plains of Silence", where he hopes to find peace. Mad Max emphasizes vehicular combat, in which players can use weapon and armor upgrades on their car to fight enemies. It is set in an open post-apocalyptic wasteland consisting of deserts, canyons, and caves.
Two other Mad Max games, developed by Cory Barlog and Interplay Entertainment respectively, were in production before the announcement of this game, but neither of them were successfully released. Although Mad Max is not based on the film series, it was inspired by its universe, and franchise creator George Miller was consulted during the game's pre-production. Avalanche Studios found developing a vehicular-combat video game a challenge because of their inexperience with creating that type of game. Announced at E3 2013, the game was re-tooled during development and the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions were canceled.
Originally planned for release in 2014, it was released in September the following year, several months after the theatrical release of Mad Max: Fury Road, the fourth film in the series. Mad Max received overall mixed reviews from critics. Although the game's environment, direction, vehicular combat, and graphics were praised, its quest design and story were criticized. The game became the eighth best-selling retail game in the United States in September 2015.

When Mad Max came out I just miss it , as I avoid any game that is base on movie ... and after all first half of 2015 GTAV get out , then Witcher 3 I had fun with those , then MGSV , and after I played those , I installed Mad Max and I played few hour , and honesly I dunno why I stoped , I had some stuff to do ... and later on came out Fallout 4 , I think I need to try this game again .

just in case you ever come back to this game. I suggest you use your harpoon a LOT more. You seem to want to get out of your car every time you see people. every sniper you killed in the video you could have just harpooned(you can hit people directly with it. just aim at them, shoot it, and mouse 1 to rip them away, you dont need to drive away with them like you do to tear down buildings and walls). and once it is upgraded you can rip doors and wheels off cars while driving(and rip drivers out of the car as well) the only thing more OP than the harpoon is the rocket launcher you get pretty soon.

I primarily believe because it's due to the fact that almost EVERYTHING you do in this game contributes to forging the best car, making Max and the Magum Opus crazy strong towards the end. The whole game is a journey, so by the end you appreciate the beast of a car you put together.

I think it's because it feels like genuine scrounging and surviving where most of these sorts of games it's just there because...open world. It just feels more like something you HAVE to do here rather than something that's just there to give you map markers.

I've played through this game probably 5 or 6 times. Absolutely one of the best open world games. I also really liked the story, felt very Mad Max and not like something pretending to be Mad Max. It was simple but effective, with a bitter ending that put Max right back to where he was at the start. Also I feel like the best way to play is to only get a few of the fuel upgrades, so you constantly have to actually scavenge for fuel. You get all of the upgrades and suddenly you never have to worry about fuel again, which kinda takes away from the experience.

Mad Max is bloody awesome. Underrated game I feel like because during 2015 people were saying it was too long which it wasnt. The Fallout 4 hype must of overshadowed this game. Not to mention the big open world, the need to look for Gas in an apocalypse games is awesome with those few touches. Also ol chum is the GOAT. The only bad thing I can say about this game is "story", but the gameplay itself was so satisfying I didn't much care. Playing this was the closest I came to a completionist run of any modern game. Excellent, visceral sound design and the combat either in car or on foot is just an all around blast. Probably one of the best "Soft" Ubi games. Simple but satisfying combat, large map with surprising variety considering it's exclusively desert wasteland, fun vehicle combat and a good sense of progression trough the game, the story is simple and meandering but fun enough and surprisingly well written and character focused, Chumbucket is a delight and unironically one of my favourite NPCs in the previous console generation. It can get really repetitive, especially considering clearing the map of objectives is a requirement for the best upgrades so nothing is exactly "optonal" but the moment to moment gameplay is varied and fun enough to make up for the otherwise repetitive objectives. It's a good game if you like to roam around a map causing chaos (I know I sure do) but won't change anyone's mind if they are already primed against open world "checklist" Soft Ubi games.

I was into Fury Road a lot so I was just wanting some mindless fun in the Wasteland but this game has no right being THIS good. I was blown away by the detail and actual effort that went into a game most probably would think is a quick cheap movie tie in product. Why they chose to release it the SAME DAY as Fallout 4 I’ll never understand, it would’ve gotten good reception if people actually knew about it and just made it seem like the company didn’t have much faith in it which is a shame

The sound effects in this game were sick. He loved the engine noises and that was just the V6! The V8 is awesome

Definitely underrated as others say, but I also understand why : it's repetitive, the map is huge with not many things to do, it tends to drag on near the end, and when it came out it felt like a dumbed down Arkham combat system ( yet it's brutal and you can really feel the weight of the attacks, and the weapon sounds are loud and satisfying ). It's still the best desert open world I've seen.

Underrated AF! I bought it in 2019 then I dunno why I sold it after 1 week & I regret it, I bought it again still in 2019, took my time with the game, be patient & realise how great, fun & simple this game is, I LOVE IT!

I really enjoyed it when I played it years ago and everyone I've ever recommended to loved it. It's definitely repetitive and a major component of the game is just picking up scrap, but I found the game soooo satisfying. The driving battles are terrific and I found the hand to hand combat well done. I really don't know why it was only given average reviews upon its release.

The term you were looking for to describe the aesthetic of Mad Max is Diesel Punk. Movies like Mad Max and Water World were trend setters for the aesthetic.

Man, I absolutely adore this game. Severely flawed in a lot of ways, but the one thing it set out to do, the car combat and driving, is absolutely PERFECT. Cruising around the world and busting shit up is just so purely satisfying, and it made for one of the best “pick up and play” sandboxes of its gen. IMO it’s the epitome of a flawed masterpiece. Super underrated game.

The funny thing about the game being so similar to Fury Road, is because it IS Fury Road, kind of. Fury Road was in development, cancellation and re-shooting for so long that there were heaps and heaps concept art and original story boarding done, some even being from the tie-in game that was supposed to go with the original Fury Road if I remember correctly. The game was basically stitched together from old concepts by the creators of the game without any input from George Miller

This game is an amazing, epic Mad Max game and I replay it every year or so. Everything is so satisfying....melee combat, car combat and explosion physics, the story and environments....Everything is just masterfully done. A classic.

This game IS related to Fury Road. The main villain of the game is the son of Immortan Joe, the bad guy from the movie. This takes place after the events of the film.

I bought it day one on PS4 back then but I couldn't take the 30fps gameplay so I stopped playing. I got recently a Xbox Series X and OMG this game runs up 120fps on boost mode with auto HDR looks fantastic!

The only bad thing about this game is the sheer amount of mind numbing copy pasted busywork in each zone. Everything else was great about it, and when you fully upgraded your car you felt like a god

One of the best hand to hand combat games imo. At least one of the best that i've played. And the game is just fun to drive around and cause chaos. However it does feel kinda empty. But i guess thats just the world of mad max

It´s an unfinished product, but not the way usually games are rushed to the market. In Mad Max, they worked out all of the game mechanics. The driving and combat is fantastic. It´s the missions that do get repetitive. It´s an amazing game and I hope they one day remaster it and add more content. *I typically get my games from those naughty sites. I bought this after playing it because I liked it so much.

Playing Rage 2 made me realize something...that the driving in that game is pure torture and that I should probably play Mad Max instead cause that game at least made me feel something and helped me during the time I was at the hospital cause it's quite a cool game honestly

bro lighting the gas can on fire instead of refueling your vehicle that's out of gas is epic. Who ever has never don't some crazy shit like that in a video game hasn't lived. like when you played star citizen wanted to mine an asteroid and flew into it and died and lost all your items lol.

This game is awesome! The sense of progression is amazing and I love that despite everything happening in a deserted wasteland, the map is beautiful in a certain way and each region has it's own personality. It's a shame it came out exactly the same day as Metal Gear Solid V, this game deserved more love
