That was awesome, and thanks for the shoutout! Yeah this game is.... it's a good game but it's like a copy of something much better that was never completed. Which is what essentially happened. I recently talked to Cory Barlog who worked with George Miller on the true Fury Road tie-in game and he told me that this 2015 Avalanche game was built on the skeleton of what they were working on. Barlog and Miller came up with Scrotus and Chumbucket for their game. The story was obviously lifted from the official comic books (which Cory didn't read he told me so I urged him to check it out). But the worst offense from WB was that they didn't care what they were putting in their game. Furiosa is coming out in a year, so imagine this - this game showed us the main villain of Furiosa some odd... what, 8 years before the next film? No wonder George Miller's name is not in this game. There's a whole mission exploring 'Dementus' tomb' which also has spoilers about the upcoming film ON THE WALLS OF THE CAVE! I kid you not, go and visit that location and look at the murals - it's depicting a wasteland war between the Immortan and Dementus' gang over Gastown. They had the nerve to put that in the game. There are also other things, like Scrotus who will also show up in the next film but damn.... It's not as much as just butchering source material when it comes to the story. It's stomping all over it without any respect for the man who created it.

No wonder why Warner Bros is sinking right now, they are bunch of corporate dicks you will only see in a parody 🙄 Also, as bad as I want a sequel, it seems that the greatness of the project was due to Miller and Barlog like you pointed out. Since I played the game when it released I had that strange feeling that it was an awesome and fun game with good ideas but made with laziness or something that I could not describe that stopped the whole game from reaching it´s true potential. Now I know the reason why, thank you.
@MadMaxBible Жыл бұрын
@@albertoperusquia6044 Yeah WB is full of brilliant ideas like that. They wanted to release Fury Road without the Citadel scenes, imagine that! They thought the whole movie was done after they filmed the main parts in Namibia (which are the chase scenes mostly). George Miller had to film the Citadel scenes in Sydney by WB were like - nope, the movie is done, ready to go! Miller fought tooth and nail to finish filming it because the film was not complete. WB wanted to release a film without the beginning and ending, that's how clueless they are! And it goes beyond that too. For example - we were going to get some decent quality Fury Road merch - figures from NECA (I know ppl say they're quality is not the best but bear with me). After WB took over the merch side of things after the rains in Broken Hill in 2010 (just like they took over the game) - they decided to release those Funkopop figures - which is the most low effort thing anyone can do - because it saved them money. And barely any merch at all besides that. There's about 80 vehicles in this film that people would love to have models of and they didn't care about it! They really are clueless. The game is yet another piece of this crappy puzzle. Goes to show that creative and corporate don't mix.

I like the idea that Max is one of those characters who has very precise goals, but something always gets in the way, and he either beats it up, blows it up, helps it turn into a prosperous community, or slaughters it just to move a single step closer to his goal. He’s the kind of guy who travels through a Warzone and overthrows a government just to get a gallon of milk.
@TripleXMango Жыл бұрын
I just finished the campaign for the first time since beating it upon release, and yeah, it really suits the tone they went for IMO. Every moment of the game is sad and depressing story wise, and it feels very natural. We as the player have that complete lack of hope for anything good for most of the game, until the end of Act 3, when we learn more about Hope, and begin our hunt for Glory. Having forgot the story from there, I felt myself really feeling the hope come back, I would kill Scrotus, get the girls, and take them and the Magnum Opus somewhere new. Then, in one twist, all that is stolen. Max is forced to confront his truth, that no one around him can be trusted, and he can never change who he is, or the path he is on. It matches the tone from early part of the game, and CRUSHES any hope you feel as Max. I quite enjoy how Max kind of comes off as a neutral force by the end. He achieved essentially nothing, set himself days behind on his plans to leave the waste, sort of murders Chumbucket, the traitor, for no real reason, and loses the car he just spent so much time and effort on. That moment of him sitting behind the wheel of the black on black and just taking a breath before tearing off is perfect. Max has learned nothing, except maybe to keep to himself from now on. A few camps are doing better now thanks to him, but hundreds of people are also dead or dying because of him.

The thing about Max not changing from the beginning of the game to the end is.. kind of the point? All these stories, from books, to movies, to games, involve some kind of character growth. But Max.. isn't a character. He is a vehicle (haha) that drives the plot forward around actual characters. He shows up, interacts with the locals, hijinks ensue, then off he goes. If he changed then he wouldn't really be "The Road Warrior" anymore. This mythical entity that is spoken of around camp fires, that may or may not even exist. For Mad Max to work he kind of *has* to stay static. Because that's how the stories are told. Not the one's we're told, but the ones this world tells. Looking at Max from the lens of these wasteland wackos he almost seems like an urban legend rather than a normal man.

The playtime is awful. That mid as hell game was like 30hrs long and the majority of it was fetch quests. Fetching gas, fetching parts, fetching collectables. People really need to stop this 10/10 crap too, NO the game is not perfect and nowhere near deserving of a perfect score. the game is mid, it was a big dead map with not much going on, doing the same 5 missions over and over again, the combat is basic at best. At its best its a 6/10 mediocre game, not bad, but not great and its way too long and drawn out with the constant fetch garbage.
@princetchalla24414 ай бұрын
The 6/10 feels fair, but for me it was everything I wanted along with the badass shotgun mechanics that tied into the fist fights perfectly. Also having the car worked on mid chase and having to jump out of the vehicle and finish some of them off with a shotgun blast to the fuel tank was a lot of fun. That makes the 6/10 game a 10/10 for me. Story could've been better, and I would've liked to see Chumbucket live, but it has everything I like in a game that makes me want to come back and keep playing. Collectables are also pretty much optional and fetch quests are pretty fun when you're getting chased while also forcing you to switch it up in vehicles so I think its perfect tbh. Most of the objectives being optional while letting you max out a build with little grinding sold me on this game
@ChrisHarmon13 ай бұрын
@@lutherheggs451I personally hate buying a game first day because I love the concept and have it be over in two 5 hour sessions, so 30 hours even with "fetch" quests is fine as long as there is a little bit of story to go along with them. The engine sounds really are the best in gaming. The way the engines rev, the way each motor for the magnum opus has a really distinct tone and feel really sells the car customization. As a massive car lover these are the best engines you will ever find in a game. Second would be how nicely the game progresses. You start with nothing, and a simple scout buggy can wreck you and the magnum opus, but by the end of the game you are a death-dealing war machine with flamethrowers and grappling hooks that topple camps and wrecks convoys of armed vehicles. The story is not liked by some, but others, like me, LOVE IT. Max really is an animal in the game, and his failure to protect the family he only briefly had in the game really drives the knife of loosing his first family even deeper, so he kills scrotus in a blind rage, also killing chum in the process, and continues his insane quest towards the plains of silence in a desperate attempt to find peace. But, when we reach max in fury road (the game is absolutely a sequel to thunderdome therefore sits just before fury road. fight me), his experience with furiosa and the wives makes him want to turn back, because max finally knows how to protect the people around him. And he finally gets his redemption when the wives and furiosa make it back safe to the citadel, and he walks off to wander the wastes, satisfied. the game really does add weight behind max's decision to turn away from the plans of silence. The environtment is top notch too. the way they make a dozen+ regions each feel distinct and populate it with many distinct groups of people really is awesome. in the words of george miller (paraphrased): "It's all a bunch of nothing, but you have to have dozen varieties of nothing". the game really gets this right. in other words THE STORY OF THIS GAME IS AMAZING AND PERFECTLY WORKS WITH THE GREATER ARC OF MAX'S STORYLINE!!!!!!!!!!!

The hallucination with Hope would've been much more beautiful and meaningful if they gave her more screentime, along with more time with Max. That's all they needed to do. Edit: Man the Magnum Opus had a bigger V8 than the XB Interceptor. 429CI over 351, and the Interceptor made nearly 700bhp (600hp to the wheels roughly translates to around 700 based on an FR layout), partly thanks to NOS woven into the fuel mixture. That's the spec in the first movie, and it's been years of decay ever since 1984 or 1985, as the first Mad Max takes place in the 80's. As much as I love the funny Aussie Falcon (like, A LOT), I agree that with funny duckman when he points out the problems with sacrificing the Opus.
@FrankoIsLucki Жыл бұрын
700bhp? I though it made less like around 500 considering that in the first movie it had a xbgt v8 and a supercharger or at least how I remember it look like

@klyvemercado2001 only thing I dont agree with is that u said sacrificing magnum was bad. I get it in a game perspective but in the story it makes sense like that weird tripping cutseen it has alot of meaning behind it as mutch as Max tries that car still has a hold on him as if his fate is to be a straw dog wandering around with no owner going place to place and well just like dinki di at the start of the game get used and then tossed back to wandering around so I like the ending specifically when Max closes his eyes and looks up as he revs his eninge knowing he can't escape from the black on black he know the Plains of Silence don't exist. This game is truly breath-taking, even now I still go back to play it now even if I've gotten quite far in the game I still start from the beginning to experience it all again just like the first time it never gets old. Every collectible is amazing to collect once again no matter how far out of the way they are, the titles are a joy to achieve again, I'm unsure if I'm the only one who enjoys doing this. Also the single fact the game takes place in an apocalyptic Australia just makes it enjoyable for an aussie myself. If the world ever fell into apocalypse THIS is how i want AUS to be.

Like, maybe it's not too on form for the series but-here's an alternate ending. Max doesn't sacrifice the Opus, he can see the rig is going over that cliff whether he does anything or not. Instead, the interceptor still emerges, and you have to fight it with the Opus. You manage to disable, but not destroy it, have the fight on foot which you again win. And Max gives the Opus to Chum Bucket. The two get to make their journey, with both cars, leading off into... who knows, maybe a sequel, maybe a movie tie in, whatever. Maybe it's a bit sappy for the series but honestly, it's not really cannon anyway so what does it matter and it'd give the player the feeling that they actually achieved something.

Alright so... Mad Max 2015 had great graphics, good vehicle combat, phenomenal environments, and a good progression system. But it also had a story that was spotty at best at some points, repetitive goals, and absolutely zero replayability after a certain point. Camps became tedious to clear because they eventually became samey near the end of the game, almost like the developers were being rushed to hell and gave up on a lot of game design towards the end of development, and when you clear a zone on the map, which lowers the threat level significantly, almost no enemies will spawn there. Like, you can drive around for an hour and run into MAYBE two cars. And there was no New Game + so you had to start from scratch every single time you wanted to replay the story. From personal experience, I cleared every zone on the map which caused issues. Once I did that, I couldn't complete some of my trophies and in-game objectives because there were literally no enemies spawning. No random patrols, no camps, nothing. I would have had to make a new save to complete those objectives/trophies so I decided 'Fuck it' and uninstalled it. Plus the story was pretty depressing. Like, I get it. Mad Max is always in torment. But they totally could have given the guy a break this time at least.

Fucking love this game! I remember the reviews - one criticized the collection of scrap as a currency lamenting the practicalities of having to carry such a heavy load (owning an entire armory in Skyrim or GTA was apparently fine) - there was certainly a disparity between what the critics wrote versus the appreciation by the gaming community - those who were lucky enough to play it anyway.

first off, real good video, I loved the game so much, one of my favourite youtuber actually made a playthrough back when it was released and I never tought the game had been judged so harshly cause he loved it and it was the most popular playtrough of his channel at the time. The fun, the scale, the scarcity of ressource, the feeling of growing slowly stronger, the goddamn sounds of the engines, the hand to hand takedowns that felt so brutal, it's a gem. It might get boring once you finished all the side quest cause fighting occurs seldomly, but the adventure is worth the time. Tough, for me the game is completly set in the same universe as the movie, for me the game is a prequel: at the beggining of the movie the interceptor has the same external fuel tanks that you get at the end of the game, you visit petrotown, wich often referred in the movie, the bullet farm isn't seen nor in the movie nor the game but both refers it, I even believe that there is some reference to immortan joe in the game. For me all of this proves tht after venturing in the big nothing for days, max ran out fuel and the movie begins with him taking a leak, effectively making the game a prequel to the movie. Also, why would they stick so much to the imagery of the movie (spiked beetle cars, white painted dudes with stick that explodes, big fucking trucks (you cans see a warbringer in a tunnel in the game, exact same one as in the movie)) if not to connect the two? Anyway, good video and heckin great game that cost nothing nowadays, jump on it if you see it!

I just wish we could have had a Mad Max game based more on Road Warrior or MM1, Fury Road was good but just too much suspension of disbelief. Road Warrior felt like a real world scenario, gasoline was more valuable than life itself, even water was practically non existent by then. The cars ranged from dune buggies, to muscle cars, to motorbikes, and the only way you survive is keeping that vehicle running at all costs. The outfits were scraps and sports gear. Weaponry was reduced to at best crossbows, with maybe the rare gun here and there. Now in Fury Road, we have giant fortresses with powered water falls, monster trucks fitted with dual V8's, guns and explosive spears, entire armies worth of soldiers and cars with offroad kits.. It just ruined everything about the Mad Max universe. It's supposed to be a real world portrayal of a society that has collapsed and lead into nuclear wars and resource wars to the point where whatever survivors are left have become "every man for himself"... now there's mutants and monster trucks? Get outta here with that BS. Lord Hummongus was a good villain because he was just a man, a man that assembled many small gangs into one big gang to conquer the wasteland any way they needed to, to survive. Immortan Joe, is some geriatric dying old guy I'm just supposed to believe was somehow so powerful and influential he managed to build a fortress full of garages, training regiments, loyal soldiers, and again some sort of artificial switch operated waterfall thing - all of that inside some desert plateau - in a world where a wood splinter can kill you from infection.
