Hey james love these videos man. The barbers 380 was almost a fair price. Im indian, living jus near Kolkata, in a city called ranchi. Its much less developed than Kolkata, but i still pay 200, jus for haircut and facewash. The barber was highly respectable as well. Dont worry too much, if u feel something is fishy ask the locals who know English (before u buy or get any service or products)
@InvestedAdventure11 ай бұрын
Hey Kam, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with me, as well as watching the video 🤴 Kolkata was perhaps the most impressive modern city I visited in India, but I also liked exploring the local neighbourhood too. I can’t believe that the local barber was so humble and did such a good job for 380, when a tabouleh salad at the place I went to in the evening (200 meters away at Quest mall) cost 715, before service and tax! Thankfully the restaurant provided a couple of things on the house for me to try, as I would never have spent that kind of money whilst on travels (and, frankly, I find the local eateries - as with barbers - more interesting). I appreciate your tip and will check out some videos of Ranchi so I have a better understanding of where you’re from, and the city of Kolkata. Be sure to subscribe, in case you haven’t already, as I’d be keen to speak more in my coming videos. I head to the south of India after my brief stop in Vietnam 🇮🇳
@endless78211 ай бұрын
@@InvestedAdventure oh yes sure. Ranchi is not more of a tourist place so don't worry you're not missing anything. It's around 400kms from Kolkata, and neighbouring state of the state in which Kolkata is located. All good brother. And yeah, 715 is costly but it highly depends on the restaurant as the ones which look standard and high class are generally expensive. But all good as long you feel that it was worth it, theres no harm. I hope you enjoy your stay, when you're back from Vietnam! Let me know if you need help ☺️🙏 and yes I'm subscribed:)

I understand the potential negative vide for a church or cathedral entrance fee but at 10 Indian Rupees - US$0.12 - it isn't much to the majority and the ticket you receive states it is a donation for the church to aid in buying food for the poor of Kolkata. There is no fee for visiting the grounds only. You missed a wonderful experience of the cathedrals' interior which is most interesting and the grounds are, for where you are in Kolkata, tranquil. Incidentally, I was christened in the cathedral too many years ago (!)

I see many people talking nonsense about barber price, well its absolutely reasonable. He was staying at South Kolkata near quest mall which is a posh area in Kolkata, plus it was an airconditioned Salon and they did face wash using Shehnaz Hussain products, that aint cheap!!!! Dont compare it with cheap fatichar barber shop you go to. They didnt overcharge, rather I would say they charged fair or even less. I know places in Kolkata that would charge even more in South Kolkata. So if you dont much about Kolkata, its better to talk less!!!!

During the Raj Calcutta was the biggest and most important city in the world after London and till 1970 it was the biggest and most important city of Asia. From the 90s after the Soviet fell and America grew close to India, the Indian sentiment towards the British became softer with every passing years. The Biritsh looted trillions of dollars from this city and the Bengal area alone. Bengal was overlooked during droughts during ww2 and it became the worst drought and famine in the world. So, cities are friendly but as you go to the remote areas where modernity hasn't reached much there people maybe rude.
