In Germany we put a “Schokokuss” (hard to translate; Leo gives me “whippet cookie” as a way of translation, it’s beaten egg whites with sugar covered with a thin chocolate coating) between two slices of white bread. It sounds so random and boring and it actually tastes really great, like cake but without all the effort of baking it! The reason this whipped cream is so creamy and buttery is because it’s real whipped cream. If you make whipped cream at home (take some heavy cream, add desired amount of sugar, whip that shit) you will get this. The canned whipped cream we are used to is so different because it has a much higher air content than you could ever achieve just by whipping. The cream is expensive (and also doesn’t keep well once exposed to air) but if you separate a tiny amount of cream from a propellant/mixer gas (which is most of the weight of the can), and then extruded a little bit of the cream with the gas through a nozzle, you get a very light and fluffy cream, because it’s literally mostly gas. Try it: take some handmade whipped cream and the canned stuff and weigh a spoonful of each. It’s not even close.

If you ever need a midnight snack: Add some heavy cream to a bowl. A dash of vanilla, and a little sugar to your preference. Whip until you get stiff peaks. Now thinky slice a couple strawberries. Add your whipcream and strawberry slices to your sandwich. Any bread is good but a croissant is best. It only takes about 10-15 minutes even whisking by hand and you get a good dessert.
