FIRST TIME LISTENER | WISH YOU WERE HERE PINK FLOYD MUSIC REACTION
• FIRST TIME LISTENER | ...
_____________________________________
Pink Floyd are an English rock band formed in London in 1965. Gaining an early following as one of the first British psychedelic groups, they were distinguished by their extended compositions, sonic experiments, philosophical lyrics and elaborate live shows. They became a leading band of the progressive rock genre, cited by some as the greatest progressive rock band of all time.
Pink Floyd were founded in 1965 by Syd Barrett (guitar, lead vocals), Nick Mason (drums), Roger Waters (bass guitar, vocals) and Richard Wright (keyboards, vocals). Under Barrett's leadership, they released two hit singles, "Arnold Layne" and "See Emily Play", and the successful debut album The Piper at the Gates of Dawn (1967). The guitarist and vocalist David Gilmour joined in December 1967; Barrett left in April 1968 due to deteriorating mental health. Waters became the primary lyricist and thematic leader, devising the concepts behind Pink Floyd's most successful albums, The Dark Side of the Moon (1973), Wish You Were Here (1975), Animals (1977) and The Wall (1979). The musical film based on The Wall, Pink Floyd - The Wall (1982), won two BAFTA Awards. Pink Floyd also composed several film scores.

You can't go wrong with the Pulse show and I'll be here for the Floyd all day long. Gilmore will always be the GOAT for me but if you fancy a brief temporary detour from the Pink Floyd rabbit hole, another all-time guitar legend worth checking out is Mark Knopfler, lead singer and guitarist with the band Dire Straits. He has a totally different style of playing(finger picking). Sultans of Swing:Alchemy live is an amazing performance and well worth a reaction. All the best from Yorkshire, UK.

As Greg Phillinganes ( Micheal Jackson music director) said after seeing this concert that "they are on a different level" . maybe why they are # 2 selling around the world and this experience was their last. After 14 days in a row sold out at Earl's Court. Disco ball in " Comfortably Numb" ***** is a FU to music critics who said they would never make it because they don't play dance music.
@yelnikigwawa1845
@yelnikigwawa1845 Ай бұрын
Actually, the disco ball has always been PF’s FU to a particular British music critic, all the way back in the late 60’s, who wrote that their music would never amount to anything, “kids can’t dance to it”. Floyd replied by adding a disco ball, and stating that it was “for anyone who cared to dance”. 😝🖕😎

Two things. With Progressive Rock, Prog Rock, it was all about soundscapes and experimental music, but also the album was the artform. *Pink Floyd* was always known as a studio band, because they crafted their albums carefully to produce a fully cohesive piece. *The Wall* (1979) is written as a full rock opera, which they later turned into a movie. *Dark Side of the Moon* (1973) is a very tight album, speaking to the cycle of human life, and is easily one of the top albums of all time. *Wish You Were Here* is a cycle about navigating the music industry as a young artist. "Pink" is the nominal artist that the albums are told from the perspective of. They played concerts more as tributes to their albums, than to riff on their work, and they were famous for touring very little. The tour for *The Wall* had only ten concerts across Europe, I believe, and because their vision was so elaborate, as a full stage play for the opera, plus full special effects, they lost money on every concert -- they had expected it to lose money, but did it anyway. They made the movie as a way to create that stage experience for more people. Their concert to a vacant audience at the amphitheater in the ruins of Pompeii, Italy is a wonder of audacity, with them playing music from their *Echoes* album, naked to the judgement of Eternity. But the album is the artform. Secondly, as captivated as you are by the mood and soundscape, I think you would really like Steely Dan as well. To make it easy, try anything off of their album *Aja* (1977).

My brother (we are all Pink Floyd brothers and sisters on KZbin lol), I have loved your PF reactions and look forward to your new ones. This one was great! It is time that you tried Echoes: Live at Pompeii. There are two parts, part 1 and part 2. Many reactors do them both in one video, but they're about 26 minutes in total, so your choice if you make one or two videos. The important thing is that you listen to both parts. It will stay with you for the rest of your life. Pure brilliance. As background (keeping it short here), Pink Floyd flew to Pompeii, Italy and performed these tunes as part of a movie that played in theaters so their fans could see them play live without attending a concert. No internet or MTV music videos back in the early 70's, and PF wanted to connect with their fans. They have never been about the spotlight, only the music, so many fans had never seen them before they recorded this. Pure brilliance, pure bliss. You'll love them. God bless.

David normally struggles with lyrics, but he wrote and composed this song in one weekend and my goodness, what a gem. I once had this song, this performance, locked in my head as an earworm on endless repeat for two solid weeks. I tried everything but just had to wait for it to quit on its own. I didn't mind too much, it's Sorrow after all, but it got kind of ridiculous, never had one stick that long.

I don't know if I'd agree that he struggles, per se, (most of his finished work is fantastic), but I do agree that it doesn't come to him the way it does Roger. And I'm firmly in camp David as far as the Division (Bell) goes.

@@ianfortier6796Well, really just parroting him as he has said that writing lyrics is more difficult for him than composing. That's probably the major difference between Dave and Roger musically, Dave is a composer, Roger is a writer. Many of his lyrics post-Waters are either shared credit or credited to others (chiefly Polly, which I don't have a problem with, as she is a writer and a good one - go with your strengths). I agree though, I love all his stuff, and I would travel far and pay much to see him again (losing hope these days, but still holding a flickering little flame). Thanks for the Floyd reaction. Id like to request Wilco,"Yankee Hotel Foxtrot " nobody has done a reaction to them yet. They have a soft sound like Floyd but not as great of course. All songs on that album are good listens. Please and thanks
