It makes detangling go wayyyyyy faster...try that product. Have you tried the arc gel by deva curl? I know you use deva curl products but just unsure what the exact products you use are.

As soon as i saw your IG post i knew it was this gel😂😂 I have no idea why it flakes SOO bad for some people! You’re not the only one (especially with your hair type) who experienced the flaking, but I literally barely had any which is so weird. My hair loves it! I am very light handed with it because it is such a strong hold gel so maybe it has to do with how much you apply but either way I’m sorry that snow storm happened to you 🤣

Don’t do it if Sheamoisture does not work for your hair. The deep conditioner is so drying and takes a few shampoos to get it out.

You should try it again without putting that rinse out conditioner in your hair. Some rinse out conditioners can double as a leave-in, but that one may not be mixing well with the gel. Or maybe a little goes a long way!

It’s very interesting that you posted this today. I used this conditioner along with your other tips on deep conditioning. The one where you mixed the oils (castor, almond, apricot and added Argan) and it really worked. I don’t use gel. So after washing out the deep conditioner I put Argan oil on mine. My curls were so moisturized and today is day two and my hair still feels good. Thanks for your tips.

This is my favorite Shea moisture line. However I haven’t use the gel. I use As I Am curling jelly..amazing combo with that manuka line. Oh and the Maui deep conditioner is bomb too! You should try it..we have almost identical hair just that mine is a little looser. But I think you’d like the Maui masque!

This video express exactly how I feel about this line and subsequently the gel. I went to target yesterday and bought the gel and milk. So excited to try my favorite shea moisture lines max hold gel. Utter fail. That gel is by the door with the receipt. It’s going back. My curls look nice actually but they feel horrible. I can’t wait to wash it. I can’t stand to touch my hair. I’ll keep the milk because I love the thickness. I’ll use it as a cream in the LOC method. But that gel...the residue left on my hair feels so gross. It feels tacky. I’ll probably start with the flakes tomorrow. And I have to agree with you on their poor bottle selection. Even the gel in the jar was annoying to get out.

Thank you for posting about the hold gel, and giving your full opinion. I had a similar experience when I used Aunt Jackie's CoCo products. The co-wash, deep conditioner, and intense moisturizer had my curls poppin...... Then I used the Curl Bounce Gel, and it was not great like Tony the Tiger.... I had frosted flakes everywhere. So hurt after the time and effort I put in. I will try the other shea products minus the gel; thank you!

I have the Intensive Hydration Shampoo, the Intensive Hydration Conditioner in the normal size as well as the big bottle, and ran out of the Intensive Hydration Masque, but I love all 3 products. I need to use the Shampoo, since I haven’t used it since 2016. Glad that their NEW Intensive Hydration Hair Milk worked for you, but sorry about their NEW Intensive Hydration Max Hold Gel didn’t work. Thanks for the review & demo! Why didn't I see this video before I tried this product. I had the same exact results happen to me. When I thought it was drying out, I added a little bit more gel, by the time I finished I had almost used the whole jar and I have less hair then you do. The Definition was on 1,000,000% BUT my hair felt like straw and I was covered in flakes from day 1, I tried to sleep on it and crunch the next day with oil and it was even worse. I had to wash it out. I really hope they revisit the formula for this gel, I really had high hopes for this line, I love it!

Oh nooo 😲. I just purchased the gel by itself and experimented with it. I combined it with my leave in (Miss Jessie's Leave-In Condish) on one section, and on another section I combined it with my styling hair cream (SM Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie). I had NO flaking whatsoever. The mix with my Leave-in gave me a 9 hold, while the mix with the smoothie game about about a 6 hold. I don't use gels because they weigh my hair down too much, I prefer soft bouncy medium density result but, this summer has been extremely humid where I live (East Central Texas) so I finally gave in and purchased a gel. I love this gel it fights the humidity for sure.

I just rediscovered using Shea moisture. So far I love the manuka honey masque and the raw shea butter shampoo. I literally don't need anything else added to my hair. I can rinse the masque out and let it air dry and my hair is soft and smooth. Not many products have done that for me ever! My hair is roughly to my shoulders and I used one of those packets for the masque. Got two uses out of it. Could probably get three because I used too much the first time

I just used this and experienced the same thing, all slip was gone, just deep conditioned and my hair felt instantly dry. I didnt get any flaking which i was definitely expecting. My wash and go lasted really well. Think im going to use a little less next time and use with leave in to see if i get the slip

I just tried the max hold gel and the leave-in milk this weekend. Girl... When I tell you the same EXACT thing happened to me. Flakes were everywhere. It probably flaked because you used the rinse out conditioner as a leave in(usually a bad idea unless direction say so) then put an additional thick leave in conditioner on top. Just saying. Washout the rinse out conditioner as directed next time and try again with just the milk. this line is super thick after all.

Hey Neiicey, maybe use less gel next time see if that makes a difference. When I’m heavy handed with gels I will always get flakes. I use the Kinky-Curly Curling Custard and it’s great for my hair but I have to be careful with the amount I use.

Hi, flakes are SO frustrating. I just came across a line called UpNorth Naturals and other than here and there curiosity, I'm done searching for gels! I used their styling lotion and 8 oil gelly and was amazed. I just ordered the hair milk because I may need a bit more moisture to go further than 3-4 day hair, but I'd love to see if you'd like it!
