Last time i went to the grocery store (next door literally) i bought some plant starts of leaf lettuce. I'm going to transplant them into larger pots to donate to the foodbank located in my complex.(seniors or disabled people) so they can have their own little garden.

I've been trying to use up some of the things in my freezer and pantry since January. I'm beginning to think it is multiplying behind my back because those freezers are still full. Sure has helped with the grocery bills though.

Canning meat is really helpful to me as a teacher. I can do the work when I have time and when I’m busy, I can just throw things together. The whole thawing meat, and cooking it can be difficult if you’re away from home a lot.

When I started canning, I tried a variety of items, some of which have just been sitting on my shelf. I think using up what's there will help me to better plan as I go. Tessie this is off topic but just letting you know you can find the little house on the prairie audiobooks to go to sleep to on KZbin. I discovered it last night and went to sleep listening. I suffer from insomnia and I’m a horrible night owl but it really helped me sleep great. I think it’d be great to listen to while working in the kitchen as well.

About 18 months ago, we began transitioning out of 5 gallon buckets into 1gallon jars, 2qt Ball canning jars, and an eclectic collection of thrift store jars. The first goal is to get out of wrestling 5 gallon buckets. We were onsidering Gamma or similar 5 ga,lon bucket lids when I decided that I would rather pay for the conviemce of smal,er containers than Gamma lids. The second goal is to end up with containers I can grab off the shelf (in the detached garage) and plop right into place in the kitchen/ kitchen pantry. - This said, we are now mostly 2 and don't go through as much food as quickly as we once did. Even so, when I think back at how much nicer it would have been to have ci trainers I could simply bring in from the pantry instead of taking a jar out and filling it ..

I found 6 cans of store box cans in my pantry from 2019 had expanded in size when l reorganizing it. So any can from 2019 and back went bye Bye. It cleared up so much room in my pantry for all the food I home canned.

Buying in bulk, hsrd habbit to break, I had to learn to scale way back. Now I just bulk buy fir 1, its inky me now so 1piund of rice instead if 10pounds for the whole family, I still buy the family packs if say chicken thighs,But cone hone and immediately repackage to meal for 1 person.😊
