They did have an i5 but the whole thing was different inside, for 1800 or so. Usable gaming laptops start at 17-1800 with a quite basic spec, toss in a few upgrades and you're fast approaching 3k.

@noth606 Not to mention that upgrading the RAM yourself (when possible) is almost always more cost effective than doing it from the OEM. That's one reason I don't recommend the G14, because the RTX 4070 config, the only one with more than 16 GB of RAM, is almost the same price as the RTX 4060 Razer Blade 14, and that has a higher GPU power limit and upgradable RAM (you would have to do the RAM upgrade yourself, but unlike the G14, you can do so and save more cash).

Small track pad is 100% a benefit. 100% of us gamers are using a mouse to game but probably only 50% maybe less have an external keyboard. So the small track bad allows us to rest our palms next to the track pad to get to the QWER, ASD, etc keys to game with. Actually love the fact the pad is small. Then when you do need it (if that ever happens) it’s still there.

U all know this? Segue vs Segway Segue is occasionally found spelled segway, even in edited text. There are two likely reasons for this: the familiar suffix -way (as seen in driveway and runway) seems to agree with the notion of a segue as a "path" along which something transitions; and the existence of the homophone Segway as a trade name for an American company that produces electric transportation devices. The standard spelling segue comes from the use of the word's Italian root as a direction in music, indicating a transition without interruption.

As someone whos been through 2 high end alienware laptops (one was a warranty replacement that took over 3 months of talking to support after they broke mine). Dont. These things dont last long, are super loud, super hot and dont actually perform well. I have an m17 r2 sitting on a chair non functional because it bricked itself randomly one day, paid $200+ for a new mobo and they broke it again when they did the installation, eventually magic smoke came out and it and when i looked inside i saw whoever did the mobo replacement wrenched on stuff, stripped screws and used a damage mobo. It conveniently broke a month after i got it back meaning no warranty. Never again. Biggest upside was the keyboard, loved that thing

I had an M15x I think it's called, for a fair while, i7, started with GTX-260 GPU, later upgraded to HD 5870 or so. But I'd only recommend it if one looks for essentially a transportable computer, not a laptop. You can't use something like mine as a laptop, you need wall power and a desk to use it. And a forklift truck to transport it. At minimum you are not going to transport anything else at the same time. But it was never loud or hot and is even today quite a fast computer. $200 for a mobo is not bad, it being so soon after replacement sounds like you would have had a potential dispute to bring to court if nothing else.

I had just got this for 2 days, and this how i felt, the performance of the laptop was good, but overall, u sacrifice the rgb light at the back along with the cooler, which will make thermals not good, and replace the rgb light in the the edge of the touchpad, but m16 r2 using core ultra 7 to reduce the heat was also a great way, im a graphic designer and i felt this laptop was enough for me to use, how should i say... you gonna have a less attractive laptop this time, but the performance was there and even cooler a little bit compares to the m16 r1, i do love the design of alienware m16 r1, but this version was more of convinient and easier for traveling, not saying the design was bad this time, but the lost was not nessesary, like its okay with m18 r2, like they still keep the design and develope the performance at the same time and that was perfect, this version was more like close to what you actually need a gaming laptop to belike depends on your budget, like how its looks as a gaming laptop and how its works as a gaming laptop.

Now back to first part, fans on laptop are shit and all alienware runs at 80c usualy,or 93 c under load. By dissabling acs you will improve cooling air intake and control. Now why that product? It has air filter you can remove. Andjustable fan speed, yes with togle/button. And other nifty stuff like 360 circular air flow to cool off. After i got it my alienshit never gone above 60c ,and i live in hot country Enjoy 😂

Ended up buying the new one BUT THEN I also found the M18 with the AMD 7900M (16GB vRAM) for $1450.00 open box. Not sure which one I was to get, both are very pretty **Had to return the M18 due to issues :(** super sad I had to return the bigger laptop but still using the M16. So far everything is working well, ended up upgrading the ram to 32GB and the storage to 6TB

I gotta say, between my ROG 17, Legion 15 and AW 17R5, I much preferred the Alienware between the 3.... I can't always say the same when it come to productivity laptops with Dell, I guess that's just preference (I prefer older Thinkpads, they do plenty well), but my AW was definitely the most well built.

So the trackpad is small, the screen is not that good, the speakers are bad, the laptop sounds like a jet engine while still being hot and the design is outdated. Alienware outdid themselves

i discovered that Alienware somehow was building their laptops using liquid metal and normal heatsink compound at the same time. This causes the laptop to overheat.

I dont feel comfortable with where temps (and power consumption) have gone nowadays. Watching some repair channels seem to support that, they show a lot of broken gpus and gaming notebooks. On my desktops i spend a lot of time to keep them well under the spec temps and power limits, and i try to the same with my only (and last) gaming notebook.

Why is that power adapter so scratched up? Did it come that way?

You need to compare this against the XPS equivalent. Cause that’s as close to being able to tell the difference cooling makes.

The fact Alex didn't even mention the insane fan sound or temps in his final thoughts is wild. I guess you can't be too honest about the jet engine, disguised as a laptop, if you want to place a link to this beast and make commissions off the sale

I want Windows laptops to start coming with haptic touchpads like on Macbooks. That way you can press anywhere to get a left click. And there's less thing to break.

Is the screen too dark to use for non-gaming , daily work ? The laptop can be customized with 64gb ram too without costing $4k+.

Why is that laptop so small?

They have two models. M16 is their 16" and a M18 18". Some people prefer the smaller form factor because it's cheaper and more portable.

You guys should do the unboxing first and then send product to the lab for testing and get it back and continue the video. I think the video would be quit a bit more satisfying to watch that way because it kinda feels like you guys a reviewing a second hand product here.

Those fans are very similar to those in an XPS, and the speakers appear to be the same. Better order spares of both before taxing it too much... Coming to think of it--why do you think XPSes sound better? It's the exact same speaker module I see in there...
