@@theprinceoffreshair This Primus tale is even sicker. When I was only about 50, 16 years ago, I was checking out a hot stripper studiously ignoring my old ass while she worked the pole to My Name is Mud (with the second downbeat on 3&). When I sang along to the vocal part "I kissed him upside the cranium with an aluminum baseball bat" she started paying attention to me. Now I can hang with a sweetie with no more than three facial piercings (in her case a nose ring, a gold eyebrow stud with a diamond tip and the obligatory tongue pierce) but I draw the line at more than 20 tats. Unfortunately she had about 30, not counting her sleeve, but she rocked a scarlet Mohawk, she had the skull for it, y'know. So I figured what the hell and gave her a buck; had she been doin' the shimmy shake shake to Jerry Was A Race Car Driver I might've given her two.....lol. True story.

That room has really nice acoustics, and as for your playing, I can’t say enough. Do you notice a big, or any difference, between the vintage Giant Beats, and the reissue? I just learned to record to a degree, and will be doing a Zep Cover, or 2 soon (I’ll have to put in some time on that, to do it justice) I don’t have the Ludwig Bonham sized kit, but do have a birch/bubinga Starrclassic in the sizes. It sounds great, but I don’t use DAW, and guess we’ll see how close I can get the sound. There are no tricks when doing Zep. Ya really need to know the tunes, and how to execute, as click tracks aren’t going to do much good. Another great job!
@BONHAMOLOGY4 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Yes, I think there is a significant difference between the originals and the reissues. In one ways The originals are a bit darker, and seem to have a little more warmth, but it could just be the aging, patina etc.

Could you cover the tracks the How The West Was Won? It’d be awesome to see you cover those. The drums are so powerful on that album.
@BONHAMOLOGY5 жыл бұрын
I may eventually do some but that's tall order to actually play those versions note for note. That would take some serious time. The studio albums I know very well from listening to them for over 35 years and playing along with them. HTWWW is much more recent and while I have listened to it a lot and memorized some parts, I don't have them as ingrained. Same with RAH. I will try to cover some tunes from that album though.

Hey, George, what should I do to prevent this from happening again? I was playing yesterday and out of nowhere I just broke right through the bass drum head while playing! I mean I do hit the drums pretty hard, but this was a fairly new drum head, and I was using the same beater as you, and it wasn’t to tight or anything, just normal tuning, how can I prevent this? I am using a coated Emperor vintage “22. Thanks.
@BONHAMOLOGY5 жыл бұрын
I don't know, that seems very odd. I never break bass drum heads unless I use a wood beater and kick the shit outta the drum. I would say, try usind a kick pad of some sort, maybe something stronger than moleskin. Fiberskyn makes a patch that's basically a layer of drum head so it feels pretty natural. I used the Danmar black round patches before and I liked them too. You might need to lighten up!
