Twenty-five years after it was adopted, the so-called Kyoto Protocol has clearly proven to be a significant step toward greater climate action. But was it enough to head of the worst effects of global warming? The Post spoke with experts who say it was not sufficient. Since 1997, the international community has reached an updated agreement, namely the Paris Accord in 2015, that aims to mitigate disasters caused by a rapidly warming planet. Despite those actions, climate trackers predict the planet will still warm by up to 2.1 degrees Celsius (3.8 degrees Fahrenheit) by 2100 unless radical changes are made by developed nations and corporations.

In the U.S., trees adapted only to the specific climate, mainly south, where the temperature is relatively warm, have spread to colder northern states in part thanks to warmer temperatures on average and shorter winters. The frequency of major flooding in the south has been causing a significant amount of money to recover each year. Climate change is real.

May the Anthropocene epoch make the Permian-Triassic extinction event seem like a minor footnote in the pages of Earth's history. Here's to making scenario SSP5-8.5 of the IPCC assessment a reality.

The Kyoto and Paris agreements both violated the 1992 UNFCCC agreement, which committed the world to SAFE CONCENTRATIONS and thus safe heat levels. The IPCC unilaterally rejected this commitment in its 2nd assessment report in 1995.

United States: Bill Clinton (Democrats) signed the Kyoto Protocol in 1998. Bush Jr. (Republican) withdrew from the Kyoto Protocol in 2001. Canada: Jean Chrérten (Liberal) signed the Kyoto Protocol in 1998 and ratified the Kyoto Protocol in 2002. Stephen Harper (Conservative) withdrew from the Kyoto Protocol in 2012. In conclusion... Don't vote for Republicans or Conservatives!!
