Twenty-five years after it was adopted, the so-called Kyoto Protocol has clearly proven to be a significant step toward greater climate action. But was it enough to head of the worst effects of global warming? The Post spoke with experts who say it was not sufficient. Since 1997, the international community has reached an updated agreement, namely the Paris Accord in 2015, that aims to mitigate disasters caused by a rapidly warming planet. Despite those actions, climate trackers predict the planet will still warm by up to 2.1 degrees Celsius (3.8 degrees Fahrenheit) by 2100 unless radical changes are made by developed nations and corporations.
