One thing I never noticed before is the Briggs soldier who shoots Father in the head to save Ed and Izumi is one of the guys who Hoenheim saved from Father turning them into a stone as soon as Hoenheim reached the surface, and he's one of the only people we can see out of cover, like he saw that Father was trying to do the same thing to others that he tried to do with him and said "HELL NO!" even though no one had ordered him to attack yet.

23:05 something to note is Father told Greed earlier that everything Greed has ever desired, he wanted it first. If that’s the case then there is an underlying tragedy to Father here.

Well, Hohenheim did point out that he wanted a family. That's why he made all the homunculi
@UchaNekome9 ай бұрын
Absolutely, he wanted a family like humans have so he created the sins. He was jealous of humanity, but his pride as a humunculous would never let him admit that. Like Greed he wanted everything but he refused to admit what it was he truely wanted. There was a hole that Father thought would be filled by power, but he had no clue that by destroying everything he would be left with nothing.
@stormwindsakuro86789 ай бұрын
well if I were a little guy who can do nothing by himself and damned to live in a flask as a tool or experiment I would also desire friends to love me and have faith in me
@cobusvanderlinde68719 ай бұрын
There's an even deeper tragedy to it. Father's stated goal is to leave his flask but that is impossible, every human being, or homunculis is confined in a flask and simply being human is what restricts you to it. You will only set foot in so many places, meet so many people, see so many things. You live in a flask, and its size and shape is the totality of what you will experience in your life, but it's not just a limited geographic are, but a limited time, you will never experience the environment wherein your favourite dinosaur lived because that environment is a solid 65+ million years outside of your flask, and not in the direction wherein lifestyle choices could extend the span of your flask. All that the homunculus has achieved in all these years is to enlarge his flask bit by bit, and it is impressively large, and spans over an impressive amount of time, but it is still a flask and nothing he could do could possibly get him out of it. He would need to transcend space and time, and it doesn't look like absorbing god gave that to him.

Yeah a lot of series have it where an attack does nothing and it's to signify the gap in strength is so large that attacking is pointless because you aren't doing damage at all, which has it's pros and cons, but I feel too many series then have a powerup or something that closes the gap instantly, which feels cheap. I like that they actually explained why this isn't the case here as well: every time he uses any energy at all (alchemy, regeneration) he's using up his philosophers stone, and that is already being used to its limits by trying to contain the power of god, so any attack - no matter how small - is worth throwing at him, every drop helps when they are trying to drain the power from him, and once they do then the fight is done.

What I love about this episode is the way they included the Briggs soldiers into the battle. 90% of shows only have the main cast fighting the big boss but here EVERYONE had a chance to shine
@VegetaLF79 ай бұрын
Yeah, that's been the beauty of the whole show. Everyone is involved, everyone has their role to play. No one person saved Amestris, it was a joint effort between all the allies Ed and Al have made along their journey, and those allies aren't idle when the Elrics aren't in the picture. Mustang's entire network each independently investigating things, Oliver and her Men of Briggs operating independently but all focusing on the same goal. Countless shows go on about the power of teamwork but few actually go as far to depict it as well as Fullmetal Alchemist does. *EVERYONE* has a part to play and every part is just as important as the "main" characters.

I love how Hoenheim creates a diss-track like "you can't create shit" while Father proceeds to create shit like: a small sun, bodies for human souls he has consumed, beams and orbs of energy, etc.
@rafaelcalmon28589 ай бұрын
*In a way, that just makes it even worse.* He has the ability to create so much, but ultimately, all he ever created was made for the sake of consuming, destroying. *From all that he created* (such as the homunculi and the nation of Amestris) *to all he didn't create* (people and God), all he's ever sought was to break and consume, like an ever hungry beast. The homunculi were made for the sake of the all-consuming plan, so they were also created for the sake of destruction. Up to the point of consuming God, the closest thing for the sake of "creation" he did was empower himself. But ironically, "himself" isn't of his own creation either. Truly, everything he did was for the sake of consuming and destroying. And it's incredible to me how consistent the author made it so 😁
@crustybomb1159 ай бұрын
that logic doesnt really help... sure hes created a sun in the palm of his hand, for what purpose? destruction. he expelled human souls with extra power from his stone to do what? create a diversion so he can destroy... all hes really created is destruction.

I always found it interesting that Father could have taken any form he wanted in his ascension to god-hood, but he decided to make himself look like a young and buff Hoenheim. On top of Father creating technically his own family and him mentioning to Greed that everything Greed wanted, he wanted first. Which at this point shows that Father is envious of the humans, but especially what Hoenheim had/wanted. Which is why he copied his form in both stages of pre and post god-hood. Technically Hoenheim created the homunculus known as Father, and that makes them related through blood. Through Father's scheme to absorb Xerxes, he split the power with Hoenheim and they split off to opposite ends of the desert. Father desired power and god-hood with no regard to life, while Hoenheim desired a simple and humble life on the countryside with his wife and kids until he learned of Father's plans to basically take over the planet and become a god. This anime really shows the different paths one can take given immense power. I guess in a way Father and Hoenheim are like brothers, which would also make sense since it ties back to the title "Brotherhood" which does not soely pertain to Ed and Al. Many may not agree, but I think this show is a masterpiece despite not being perfect in every way. And growing up it was 100% a cornerstone of my childhood that I'll never forget. I hated having to wait a week between every episode 😭
