Thanks for sharing. One definite aspect about Witcher: Old World is that it drips with theme. It really pulls me in. I too have played the video game and some of the books. This game has me feeling like a witcher. The base game is okay, but adding in Monster Trail and The Hunt take the base game to another level and it becomes a 9/10 for me. As you mention, it has exploration, character building, deck building, and monster battling! That makes it a tough game to put in a genre. And, as you mentioned, each witcher is slightly different and the player boards and minis are some of the best. Just a few minor complaints - the rule book could be better and dice poker is meh.

We backed this game on Kickstarter and we are so thrilled to finally have it. Our only concern is the difficulty. If you attack monsters right away, it’s tough. But if we both wait a while and upgrade ourselves a bit, then we obliterate monsters, and it’s literally just a race to the last trophy. Also, I’m disappointed that the monsters don’t have more personalised effects. They don’t feel different enough from each-other because of the monster attack deck. I would have loved to have seen more personal monster traits. Even if it was only a couple of specialties. And the game doesn’t have enough monsters, when there are so many different ones. By that I mean, there are only a handful that ever join a game, because of the trophy race. And there are only ever 3 on the board. All that being said, we absolutely love it. We’ve introduced an 8 turn only rule that has immensely improved the difficulty, as well as a few other modifiers we’ve come up with. A definite must have game for Witcher fanatics.

Great comments here! I've definitely tried too early to fight and it's a kick in the pants, but once your engine is cooking, it s fun. I like the turn limit rule, too. It reminds me of the solo game and how it becomes a race.

The game may be for specific types of players. But I am one of them! Base game is definietly not enough to replay it many times and I feel like the price is a bit high. Other than those two complains i would say it is very good game for what it wants to accomplish. Wouldn't recommend for some type of players, but overall: strong A tier for me.
