If it's wool, easiest way to tell is if the comfort of the wool will be the same. If they are, then you'll want to burn a couple loose fibers from the suspected fake. They'll be an undeniable smell difference between wool and acrylic.

You're correct. A skein of regular yarn the cheapest is $3.99 for 7 ounces. A beanie could be made for $3.99 plus the labor, which puts it at $10.00. depending on how fast someone can crochet or knit a plain beanie shown in this video...lol. The reason companies charge so much, is they can and because they know there are gullible people out there that do not realize any hat can be made for much, much less.

And it's relatively light (ya I know that's a shitty description) But I have a Stonie beanie too, and the SI beanie is waaay more thicker and a bit heavier too. IMO the Goggle is not made for the winter, even if it's made with Cotton, but the density on the SI is better.
