I agree completely... this level... it's stunning. The remaster has really taken this particular level to the next... well, level. It always looked bleak, but in a kind of ugly way. I'm amazed that they've been able to make something so bleak and dilapidated look so beautiful and atmospheric. This level DRIPS atmosphere! 😍 Awesome video as always Suzanne, I'm really enjoying catching up on your playhtrough!

The iconic "ahaa" sound of TR2 is truly nostalgic. It's a shame they removed it from Tomb Raider 3 onwards. It definitely added a special touch to the game.

Wow! This might be the level that has improved the most in the Remaster. I used to feel this level as sad since the beaty of Venice and Bartoli's Hideout was suddenly gone with the gloomy sky and close to no light and the ambience from Caves felt sad rather than misterious. I'm so glad that they added this gorgeous sky, the chandelier and multiple lightspots across the level. There's so much that illumination details like this can do to massively alter the mood of the level and this was definitively used in a perfect way. I found a trick to take Mr Shoty (the tough guy at the warehouse) with only pistols and not draining 20 MP. Stay on top of the crates and just jump from the ones on the middle to the ones on the right. He spends around a second to aim at Lara before shooting. Once he finally is ready to shoot, Lara will be covered again by the crates and he'll abort the gunfire.

6:16 Decent sunglasses would also provide a little protection from snow blindness (a recognised condition caused by UV light reflecting off of snow - though more common in polar regions, so it might be a good idea to use the shades again in Antarctica next game.) 16:25 I always thought the ‘brickballs’ were artificial boulders, and came up with a few possible explanations for their presence in the Opera House: 1) One of the shows put on when the place was actually being used as an opera house was The Sound of Music, and the director wanted to enliven the Lonely Goatherd sequence with a landslide. 2) They were planning on showing a musical based on Raiders of the Lost Ark. 3) Somebody failed to grasp the meaning of the term ‘Rock Opera’. 30:01 At least you didn’t think it was an alarm clock. I mean, a bomb does make some degree of sense, since Lara was blowing stuff up just last level. BTW, a relay box is a bit like a fuse box, but more advanced and capable of dealing with higher voltages. 36:36 I believe there’s an achievement for breaking a window by jumping through it. You may have missed out on that one by being too trigger-happy. 39:37 I’d guess that the blocked-off area you mention at 40:22 used to be the exit from the dressing room, but the passageway collapsed owing to flooding. Doesn’t explain why there are windows rather than a door in between, but it’s a bit optimistic to be expecting any kind of rational thought from Gianni “I want my son to become a _dragon_ when he grows up” Bartoli. 43:30m I think the term you’re after is ‘backcloth’. And you’re right, window-shooting mansion-exploder Lara’s reluctance to enlarge the hole in this one doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. 49:31 Two-Gun Toni (as I call him) has always made that kind of noise when dying. 53:45 Whoever animated the view through the windscreen seems not to have realised that the plane starts to go into a dive after Marco gut-punches Fabio. 59:30 I thought they'd already found the wreckage (hence the large number of thugs prowling around in it - if they'd been aboard when it was bombed, they'd be old men by now), but didn't know exactly where in the wreck the Seraph was - or even if it's still there: depending on how well-informed the Fiamma Nera were about how the ship went down, they might not know for sure that it wasn't boarded and robbed of its precious cargo before being sunk.

I love this level and the remastered version is amazing. I liked the string of lights along the roof tiles and that chandelier and dome I was like wow. Even the Bartoli poster and the light fixtures, even better atmosphere.

I loved the string of lights too! Its a great place to go into photo mode and raise the camera up to get shots of the landscape! Speaking of photo mode, the patch that dropped today allows you to MOVE Lara in photo mode by holding one of the triggers down! You can then use the sticks to get her around the environment! I can finally get her to properly sit on environment objects.

I love the “aha!” it’s burned into my brain so much I forgot it wasn’t in the original game. Was a bit disappointed when I got to the first secret. I agree about the final area with the plane looking better in the older graphics. There are some other skylines I’ve seen that I liked better in the older graphics. Nothing is perfect. Can’t wait to see the next level.

55:15 - The two oil rig levels are some of my all time least favorite TR levels because... well... "Tomb Raider" and "Oil Rig" don't sound like good mixes. I suspect your reasons for not liking the upcoming levels are a bit different though! I always loved the Maria Doria levels, even though they're some of the more divisive levels in the fandom. There was always something extremely cool about an underwater wreck that lodged itself in a cave. Kind of like The Goonies. In fact I wish there had been more wrecks down with the Maria Doria, like some pirate vessels!

39:29 It's this penchant for overcomplication that make the Natla Mines and TRs 2 & 3 so difficult for me to enjoy. The tombs of TR1 were easier and more satisfying for me to logically parse even if those levels didn't really make any practical sense. In the sequels the level design becomes much more convoluted and I'm confounded by it especially as it's supposed to be part of a recognizably modern industrial environment. Thanks for letting me be a negative nancy, I'm enjoying these Let's Plays even as I realize I have no desire to go back and play 2 and 3 for myself.

Opera truly got elevated to the next level with the remasters. While I didn't necessarily find the level groundbreaking prior, now it's my top 10. The skybox let me get really creative with screenshots here 🤣. 2:30 I thought you were gonna say "Here.... lies Tihocan" 😅. Wasn't prepared for Poppy. 5:55 I recommend Tibetan Foothills... nothing as badass as "skadooing around", to an amazing soundtrack, in the snow... 10/10 6:19 OMG... Great minds think alike. 🤣 11:28 Hahahah, out of context this sounds ABSOLUTELY BRUTAL. "I don't love you, you can die" 🤣🤣😂. 14:29 You can always just get it, reload the game and stick to your usual way you play. At least that's what I did with many of the achievements 😅. 19:40 Plus the fact that the dome is broken, makes all that water at the bottom make sense now. 🤩 Lovely episode ! 😍

I used to play this on PC with my younger sister, when it first came out. She did the "difficult" tasks with the levels, timing tasks and crates. I had to shoot the bad guys, as that was too scary for her. Good times 😅

51:55 - I was going to disagree... but I think I see what you're talking about. If you really look at the classic backgrounds, they have some flashing lights in the distant city to make it look like traffic! I LOVE the background, but my issue is they re-use it too much when different areas should use different sky boxes. You'll see it when you get to the different levels. The moon is fantastic though.

The Opera House looks stunning, but then, every level looks really good in the remasters. (It's everything that I've been wanting and hoping for from a remastered classic Tomb Raider series for, summat like, the last 10 years). At times, it almost feels like I'm playing a new classic Tomb Raider game. The underwater section, coming up next, looks great, but wait until you get to Tibet and China, Suzanne. Wow !! A few of the later levels are eye-popping. Amazing.

@@locnar1 I know you can't do level select! You can still RESTART LEVEL though! Its a NEW FEATURE! Any level you fail in, save or not, when the passport pops up press right and use "RESTART LEVEL". You do NOT have to replay the entire game! Unless you want to of course...

@@locnar1 PLEASE tell me you still have the 'about to die' save! Just load it, die, then use restart level feature! If you saved over it... facepalm yourself and take this opportunity to learn to save in multiple slots! Classic TR games were the games that taught me to save in multiple slots! I'd HIGHLY recommend you save at least once on each level. You can use this to jump between levels to achievement hunt at a later date.

I don't know if you're aware, but after multiple patches, the graphics look much improved on all the games. I definitely think it's worth a second playthrough on your own, in your free time to appreciate it. I had to do multiple extra playthroughs for my achievement hunting, where I noticed the improved textures. Specifically the underwater section of tr2 looks absolutey stunning and much better than when the remasters were first released. Definitely look into that in the future.

Yeah the nighttime skybox that you see at the end of the level is the same one that was actually made for Lara’s Home in Home Sweet Home. And you can tell from the backdrop that it’s meant to be a more countryside/small town that you can see in the backdrop. So it’s bizarre they reused the one from that instead of maybe the one from London in TR3 that had the city. But who knows! :)

It's one of my absolute favorite Tomb Raider levels. And it is quite unique in its nature and scope and the overall very colorful and dark atmosphere. I really enjoyed how you laughed so much in this episode, your puns and your crazy actions. The graphics at the beginning of the level are again breathtaking. The lighting of the beautiful building at night. Plus a new element with the boxes swinging back and forth. There are nice big Bartoli posters. It's the most nostalgically atmospheric Tomb Raider level I've played so far. The starry sky has become really beautiful. 08:10 I love that sound when the windows break. The shard traps on the floor fit the more modern TR2 quite well. Unfortunately, many of my achievements are bugged. They trigger everyone. But I sometimes get the wrong achievements in the German version. In the "Great Wall", I got the Venice achievements. Here in the opera house I got the achievements for the "Drilling Tower" or "The Wreck of the Santa Maria". I think to myself: “So what!?” 09:30 Beautiful moon and reddish light effect and beautiful fairy lights. 18:38 An absolute highlight: the beautiful, large blue-crystalline chandelier, the ceiling with the round broken glass dome. Beautiful. 31:00 The elevators also look really old school. Also a nice introduced Tomb Raider feature. Elevator rides are always nice and a nice appetizer for upcoming events. 35:50 boom and 36:02 boom. Slightly overpowered for the little rat. 🤣 42:20 I like Lara's "Aha" when she picks up pickups. 43:10 Collecting and inserting the elevator boards puts you in a good mood. There are significantly more different key objects and features to use in the game. 49:05 Nice final boss fight. The final cut scenes were very long and overall very well done. I like the one with the airplanes and the typical altitude and engine noises. I'm very excited about the next levels in what is essentially a new Tomb Raider world.

They are in a way like a remaster of your original playthroughs and it's so delightful to see your reactions to all the new details and the amazing work they have done with these games! 😍 During Greece I laughed so hard that I almost went to my knees when you were talking about Pierre's new looks: "He looks well" and later "Can't we talk about this over dinner?" 😂😂😂 And I love how you add even more to the atmosphere with the little background stories about the opera house and the bartoli mansion! 😃 And then she kills a tiny rat with a grenade launcher... 😂😂😂

Mixed feeling on this level now - playing it back in the day I think the bleakness / dilapidated look of the opera house led it towards just being generally dull, especially off the back of the unremarkable hideout stage - I also got stuck and frustrated with it as I really wanted to get onto the underwater levels that had been shown alot in the reviews and this was delaying that. Coming back to it with the lovely updated look has created a cool atmosphere and I kind of get it more now. Also a bit more patient in my older age so have managed to get through it without as much annoyance! Awesome play throughs, glad you're enjoying the game.

Hi Suzanne Opera House was my most enjoyable level so far in The Tomb Raider Remasters 1 & 2 . The Level is Stylish, Creepy and a Absolute Puzzle Masterpiece , I'm at 40 Fathoms now it's a Claustrophic Nightmare 🙄😉

Hi, You could leave the circuit borard in a warm dry place for about 3 to 4 days. Untill it's completely dry. Then check its OK before you use it. But I think they should have put it in a water tight box.

I agree about the skyline at the end, I much prefer the approach they took in the original. I feel the same about Tibetan Foothills, where the mountains in the background have been replaced with clouds. I much preferred feeling like I was exploring an actual mountain range, not just an isolated area, as it fits with the level name. But Opera House does otherwise look amazing. I wish the dome you climb on was transparent so you can see down into the Opera House. If you think this level looks good, wait until you see Temple Of Xian and Floating Islands. They're the crowning glory.

After a patch, the Opera House roof is made of a steel frame with glass. You can look inside and see the chandelier 😊

GREAT NEWS! The patch just dropped! Its fixed many issues. You may even want to revisit some of the areas in Greece as they've added some pretty awesome new open ceilings, like the locked door switch room!

The ocean liner ss maria Doria sailed across the ocean Its destination China. Nobody on board knew of the bomb planted in the electrical switch room. As the timer reached zero the bomb exploded ripping a massive hole in the port side. The ship quickly lost all electrical power preventing any distress call being sent. Then the mighty ship broke its back quickly sinking beneath the waves.

@@neptune0869 The companies that worked on this remaster got sold. It may be why their patching and communication process has been very slow. Cross your fingers. One problem with the last 3 classic games is a legal issue. Jean-Yves in TR IV is a real person. He was not happy about being used without his consent, so they had to change Jean-Yves to Charles Kane in TR V. This caused further issues because Jean-Yves was supposed to take Werner's place in the story for Angel of Darkness. Suzanne goes into a bit of detail on this in the first video of her Tomb Raider Chronicles video (I think). These are all issues in the way of remasters of the other classics. There is also the issue of Chronicles & Angel of Darkness having pretty poor reputations (deservedly imho). Chronicles could use some bug fixes. Its still an OK game. Has its moments. Angel is kind of a mess and would probably need an outright remake instead of a remaster.
