It is always a good idea to replace at least one of the screws that goes from each door hinge into the jamb with a 3" long deck screw to secure the hinge side of the door. Then use longer screws than what comes with the dead bolt flange to secure it into the latch side of the jamb. If you do not do this then anyone with a battery operated drill has a Master key to your house and can be inside in 2 minutes.

My wife and I moved to Springdale, Ar. due to prostrate cancer and cancer tumors on my left ear area, they lopped the ear off in Little Rock!! I was given 6 months on PC but due to prayer and great Dr.s at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and here in the Springdale area I'm still alive after 5 yrs and get to watch the grandkids grow and mature!! 13 and 10 are girls, so pink is my favorite color! Next time you install a door try putting the shims on the hinge side by putting your level against the stud and shim as needed. Then staple the shims to hold in place while you secure the door to the stud. Then shim as needed the rest of the door. Great progress on your project. God bless Bill

wow can you believe how far the top floor build has come....wow windows and doors going in...and the decking....it is really looking like a real house. Wont be long until you are putting the kitchen together....so exciting.

I take out a screw or 2 on each hinge and the receiver plates for the door knob/deadbolt latches and replace them with much longer screws. Makes it harder for intruders to kick it in. Be careful of the screws sucking it out of plumb though.

We got a sliding door for my moms house with the blinds inside the panes of glass. Thanks for sharing.

From our own experience with 2x6 framing, those exterior doors need to be set in so that they are at the right depth for your drywall on the inside, and you need jamb extensions and a threshold extension for the exterior side. You don't want to be doing jamb extensions on the inside with those doors. They won't swing open all the way and the trim will be right against your hinges. Ideally, you would buy doors made for 2x6 framing, but you can make these doors work.

Just my opinion but the doors with the lever handle are a better choice as they can be opened with other things like feet in a pinch if your hands are full. It makes it easier for little kids too.

As a carpenter of 40 years, I can tell you, it's better to put together a deck with a10 pebbly nails. Nails hold better than screws

You guys need a set of glass handlers suction cups. That way you can hold a door or window from the inside and control it. It also works for moving appliances and a lot of things.

The purpose of a wedge is to help get the door to where it needs to be and prevent it from going any further after you screw in the screws. You should do at least 4 shim sets behind the hinge side first then do the rest of the sides. I hide my screws in behind the spongy trim. You can just pull it out, send inthe screws then put it back. You can also set a 2x4 in next to the door and screw off the 2x4 at exact plum and use that as a guide to set the door.

I am curious why you chose to use 4 5/8 jambs in a 2X6 wall. Besides having to install jamb extensions it stops the door from fully opening.
