@@SaltfixIndeed mate. As I got older the focus changed from 'must catch a fish'... to 'I'm happy just fishing!' Seriously, I've caught decent snapper in NZ on fly in the top few inches of a shallow water kelp bed. It absolutely blew me away how shallow they get (and how aggressive)... I used to think they just mooched around deep eating scallops and stuff... I sure was wrong! Thanks again. Cheers
@Saltfix26 күн бұрын
@ yes the more I see the more I believe big snapper are not scared of shallow water they just get very wary
@peterm619926 күн бұрын
And that’s why they call it fishing and not catching! Nice work Scotty. 👌 nice pinky consultation 👍

It's all about the experience, not the catch 😉 for me ,I learn more on days like this. im always happy just to be on the water,

So good man, water looked beautiful, those snapper in that zone is so cool, so shallow and clear, sun up but still snappers smashing baits 💪🏼🔥✅
@Saltfix26 күн бұрын
@@rush.gang.fishing those Kings are frustrating , but it’s what keeps me interested and going back for more . Just froth those zones

Try going away from the hard bodies and poppers when they are touchy. Give plastics a go instead. 6 - 8 inch paddle tail or flickbait styles. 3/4 oz head and get a massive cast in.
@Saltfix23 күн бұрын
@@shayne4288 yeah I did try plastics too but they just weren’t hungry if bait won’t work then you probs won’t be getting one that day

What do you think off live baiting for the kings?
@Saltfix21 күн бұрын
@@MrCobs112 I think live baits would be dynamite but there is never any herring where I find the kings . And I’m too lazy to go looking for herring wasting time I could be chasing kings

I've been waiting all week for this upload! I get it if you don't want to give up your spots, but I was considering hiring a tinny or taking out the yak. Were you off hunters rocks or the reef before that. I completely understand if ou don't want to give away your spots, but keep it up!
@Saltfix26 күн бұрын
Hey mate not hunters Rocks, id suggest if you are going to hire a tinny speak to the hire people about where would be best. the spots you mentioned in the previous posts would be fine if you are super careful and "feel" your way in first. these zones are not for the inexperienced, on a kayak, id go for it provided you are a decent swimmer , you have the safety gear and everything is strapped down. fish are where you find em, its just a matter of putting in the hours searching. Tight lines
@BKFish44425 күн бұрын
@@Saltfix Cheers man, I felt like you were gonna say don't take a kayak out there. But yeah, hopefully I can get the grandfather to fix up his fibreglass boat, get a new sounder, and find some lumps!
@Saltfix25 күн бұрын
@ maybe start a bit closer in with the kayak. If the easterly is blowing it can get pretty spicy offshore Plenty of good fish in close
@BKFish44425 күн бұрын
@@Saltfix yeah, even inshore, I'll have to wait for a completely flat day. Looking for a sandbox hehe and close in there's the chance of a mulloway, which would be nice. Thanks for the advice!
