Haha thanks for the long time support! Finally just hit 1m views across my lifetime of this channel last week. I achieved that with 3 5wt chronicles videos on Vimeo 6 years ago.

I’ve been tying since 1982. First I commend you on the quality of fly you tie. I smile and shake my head seeing and using the modern materials. Chinneal on a wire🤦♂️I love technology. We did that back in the day but it was a mission! I had to go to the mall at Christmas time and snip some “tinsil” off the tree at the mall because it was the only place you could find that particular color. Then snip it into 1/2” lengths. Made a loop in the thread but used a wax on the thread to help the material stay put. Kinda looked like the stick glue kids have now. And spend forever pinching fibers to load the thread loop and you would drop half, and you used too much wax so each finger looks like you have a hamster hugging it, then after 30 min you could proceed to tie. But later momma would whoop your ass because no I didn’t pick up all the tiny tinsil fibers I dropped all over the rug-I’m a kid.
@Eric.Estrada4 ай бұрын
haha that sounds amazing. It's usually my wife that complains about me leaving fibers all over the house, but the boys love finding the colorful feathers, they think it was from a mysterious bird.

@@Eric.Estrada lol. I taught the fly tying class at bass pro for a few years, most bait shops in the area carry my flies and I have had the honor of tying with some of the greats. Bob Clouser can tell fishing stories like you wouldn’t believe, fished bone fish tournaments with Flip Pallet inventor of the original Merlin and the man who proved it was possible to catch permit on fly, and dozens of local fly tying guides….. I was impressed with the quality and neatness of you flies- you have talent. I’m sure you will be one of the guys that are around for a while.🫡

Like the simplicity of your patterns. Do you have any issues with corrosion with the B210S (i love these for freshwater, but they are not stainless, so I have not used them in SW patterns).
@Eric.Estrada7 ай бұрын
Thanks, as long as you don’t put a wet fly into a fly box, the hook will outlast the fly. But this is true for any fly. If you put a wet fly into a fly box, it’ll rust underneath the materials. I’ll use the same fly for months sometimes with zero rust issues.

I really like the look of this fly. I bet it would work really well on Smallmouth bass up here in the northern fresh waters! One question-I’m curious why you tie in the weedguard before wrapping the body? It seems like the weedguard would just get in the way? One note on Mason hard mono-I was having a difficult time finding it on line, but after doing some research, it turns out the factory is just 30 min from my house. 😂
@Eric.Estrada11 ай бұрын
haha that's awesome about the hard mason. It can be hard to find at times. I have found it to be way easier to tie on before I wrap the brush forward, it just comes out cleaner at the end.

Eric, do you think that 2-prong weed guard is materially better than the full loop version commonly used on bass flies?
@Eric.Estrada8 ай бұрын
I think so, but I can’t tell you definitively. I’ve caught hundreds of fish with it, works great. I’ve probably caught 8 fish with a loop style. Partially it’s cause how I was taught 15 or so years ago, but the loops just felt not as good.

I sometimes use polar fibers, or artic fox. But it’s hard to find artic fox that is the right length. It’s usually a bit too short.
@evangelizohonor3529 Жыл бұрын
