Fish and chip shops rarely fillet their fish themselves, they buy it pre-filleted. And you can't really blame them as working in one is already icky enough with all the oil (seriously, digging out the remnants at the end of the day from the friers is vile).

@@MrDannyDetail You can see the slit at the underside when it lies on the plate. Pretty sure they did it right after catching it. Frying a trout in batter isn't that weird though. Here in southern Germany it's often fried in a flour covering. That makes the skin really really crispy. I know it's not batter, but it's not too far off.

We didn't see the whole thing I am pretty sure it was somehow staged and Max instructed them on how to cook it, to make it look a bit ridiculous. Also, they were way too unimpressed and asked no questions which makes me think he talked to them before the scene we saw.

Max, where you went fishing with Jed isn’t the Thames. I live 5 minutes from where you went and it’s the River Teise, Kent. It flows into the Medway, then out to sea at Sheerness. They stock the river with fish making it easier/more enjoyable for the fishermen. I’m actually doing a dissertation on the changing geomorphology of the river

It used to be one of the most polluted in the world, however, now it's so clean its home to dolphins, seals and even a newly discovered species of shark.

The Thames isn’t actually that polluted. The reason it looks really dirty is because it’s a mud bank river with a strong undercurrent. That’s not to say it’s entirely clean. Plastics, fuel and random rubbish etc do have a negative impact on the river. With various fish, dolphins, seals, birds and other wildlife now seen (and returning) in and around the river is a strong sign that it is in fact a pretty clean river. Sorry Max. I do love your work though.

Exactly David Walliams in 2012 completed the 140mile swim and drank quiet a lot of it. I don’t think he felt well but didn’t slip in to a coma. Love the work Max keep up the great content.

future tip, the first small eylet (thing where line goes through) is not meant for the line to go through. It is for holding flies/lures while not fishing.

In the US we call a chip a French Fry. Interestingly, one would also call a baby fish (minnow) caught off the coast of Normandy a French Fry as well. And even more interestingly- when we have fish and chips where I live, we call the whole meal a "fish fry". And now I think I know why.

That's what I thought too. Frying it whole risked it being not cooked in the middle, and not gutting it (and therefore Max eating deep fried piscine digestive tract) was also potentially a health risk. I really thought Max from the edit was going to tell us he'd been ill for a week afterwards.

I remember when I was about 7 or 8 my family and I decided to go swimming in the Thames just outside London. When I got out, I came to realise that my foot was all cut up by glass and had to get a bunch of stitches. Needless to say, I don't think I'll be swimming in that river any time soon.

A) you're obviously not going to catch a fish, if your bait moves at such a breakneck speed. B) Isn't that a fly fishing rod? That certainly doesn't work like you're using it. I've worked in London for 2 years and one of my coworkers was eating fish from Thames at least once a week, he didn't even had a fishing license, he never got sick, so meney wonders
