As a young adult I stayed with my grandparents for a few months before I moved out of state. It was actually quite pleasant. We were very different people with big generational gaps but it was calm and respectful. It helped me immensely just to be seen by them. I heard the story with the dog on another channel and somebody there had really good insight. They think the fiancé Melanie just wanted free babysitting for her autistic child and so when OP moved out her free babysitter was not there, so that’s why that woman broke off the engagement.

Could be that she has control issues, &/or that she was making a 'power play' to cement her status in the household. Convincing OP's Dad to agree with getting rid of the dog would've been a very big indicator of the dynamic. OP up & moving out WITH the dog was not part of her plan & it pissed her off. Then again it could also be that she had some 'perfect blended family' ideals in my mind, telling her how it was supposed to go, & getting very upset when that wasn't the case. I saw someone else say they wonder if, when she saw that (OP's Dad) was willing to do as she asked, even if it meant hurting his relationship with his daughter,/possibly losing her for good...she started to question whether she wanted to be with someone (& have them become the parent of _her_ child(ren) who could be coerced into doing that (which would be disgustingly ironic).

Story 1: When OP mentioned wondering how or when did his father and ex start hooking up when he thought they didn't like each other and that they had a hostile relationship, either those two fell for each other from the start and pretended to be snarky to each other in front of OP in order to not give away their secret relationship or they went through a sort of "enemies to lovers" situation where they "hated" each other at first but then began to see more of each other in private and grew to lust after one another. Either way, these two are scummy for what they did and I hope the OP and his mother are doing better where they are now.
