To some people, it is a good idea not to focus on the amount of time he coded everyday. The journey to learn programming and land a job in a tech field is different from person to person. If you have a family and a kid or two, coding 4 hours everyday with a full time work means you would not spend time with your family at all. If you cannot make 4 hours to code, I personally think it is completely fine. The worst thing you can do is to blindly follow the 4 hours code everyday and get burned out. Consistency is the key. If you can code 2 hours everyday, even an hour everyday, is much better than nothing.

I code 15+ hours average per day 😬😮💨 I start when i drop my wife and brother off to work (by 9am), then i code uninterrupted usually until 4:40pm. Upon picking up my wife and brother I resume again at about 7Pm. Then i'm usually coding again until about 3 am. It has been this consistent since the start of this year. I'm afforded the ability to do so since I lost my job and also take into account I'm fairly new to programming (8 months in).

I like the thing that you mention about the source of your suggestions, e.g. Cal Newport's deep work. Many people just say the same thing without ever mentioning the original source.
@Hexspa7 ай бұрын
It must be said that four hours of deep/deliberate work is **peak performance** i.e. likely not achievable by those with a FT job, family, and are over age 40. If you’re in your 20s and free of obligation and have several years of working up to this goal then sure it’s attainable. I’m 41 and very disciplined with music and have only averaged 3h10m/day over the past 2.3 years (I use an app to track almost every minute). Mind you, this is actual deep and focused work. Other auxiliary tasks, I prorate so I’ve actually done more than that but haven’t counted it because it wasn’t sufficiently focused. I’m not here to discourage anyone but I also have beat myself up for not practicing 12h/day. It’s good to know what the conventional limits of human performance are. There’s always outliers like Kobe but statistically most of us are not outliers - and that’s ok! Being ordinary is severely underrated because actually knowing your limits is a superpower attainable by anyone willing to be honest with themselves. Bottom line: 4h/day average is A+ overachiever status.

get the fundamentals and vocabulary and syntax memorization down better than anything you've ever learned. Coding is all about bandwidth. As you move up the coding process, you are no longer moving around singular lines of code. You are moving around entire blocks of code. This means that as you move from level to level, you consolidate your lower-level code into a higher level of code that does something more general... such as "verify and authenticate account" "Fetch account information" "Populate files" that kind of stuff. Each of these could be hundreds of lines of code, but you aren't thinking about the hundreds of lines of code. You are thinking of the block. So when you are programming, you are HOPEFULLY always moving UP in scale as you fit the pieces together... but there are always mistakes. When you find a bug or an issue, you are going to need to be able to basically dump what you are doing and fill your brain's RAM with the target area that's turning up an error. As with anything you learn, the better you learn it, the less bandwidth it takes. You are going to need that bandwidth in programming. And that's just processing. Even if you have the processing power and the bandwidth to wrap your mind around an entire block of code... good for you... but are you SURE your understanding of every function is 100% accurate? Finding and fixing bugs imo requires a higher level of understanding than even writing the original code. Especially since if you make a change, you have to be able to anticipate how that change may ripple. Learning ANYTHING involves building good foundational knowledge... but ESPECIALLY coding, you have to MASTER level 1 before moving on to level 2.
