The Preston Siblings sing a classic favourite. I literally was taken away.... I grew up as an Adventist and I have never heard a better rendition. Nothing like a lil' pure a capella to slow a week down for the Sabbath... enjoy. This was @ Alpha SDA a few Sabbaths ago.

Well I agree with you about "but when i hear that part i always thought he meant us as believers or him as a believers knows a joy that unbelievers will never know unless they give there lives to God. the Joy that only God can give us." God bless.

I come to the garden alone While the dew is still on the roses And the voice I hear falling in my ear The Son of God discloses And He walks with me And He talks with me And He tells me I am His own And the joy we share as we terry there None other has ever known He speaks and the sound of His voice Is so sweet the birds hush their singing And melody that He gave to me Within my heart is ringing And He walks with me And He talks with me And He tells me I am His own And the joy we share as we terry there None other has ever known

My maternal grandmother's (Sweet Mama's) favorite hymn. My mother sang it at least once while doing housework when I very young. One of my undergraduate school professors was a Baptist minister with some interest in the history of hymnody-- I got to listen to the lyrics more closely there and to hear how it fits in the history of church music. Miss my grandmother and my mother.

dear mr. yorkali walters and singers, i just wanted you to know i sent this to all my friends today on my friendship site.. i have about 150 friends there. but first i just wanted to tell you as i sent them to that many people i listened to your version here over and over about 10 times (it was THAT beautiful). if you read what i said to my friends about this song and its personal meaning in my life you will see why. the harmony of the three singers here really reminds me of (as i said in the comment to friends) of how we harmonized (very very well!). i guess the man would have been my voice because mom and sister had prettier softer voices than me and i never could sing high notes.. always an alto singer and a little raspy ...BUT.. real good harmonizer somewhat ;) anyway here is what i sent my friends at my friendship site today ~enjoy!: sending sunday joy your way~ my mom had a beautiful voice and so did my sister, i have a scratchy alto voice but we could all sing good harmony. i remember mom singing this song all the time as she washed dishes and such while growing up. we also sang it together at the music shindigs at our home. i have never heard a man sing it as beautiful as a woman can (something in the expression or voice.. i don't really know ..and, by all means,no offense! lol my goodness afterall my brother was a tenor opera singer and he could sure sing this one beautiful too). your version here, this morning, made me weep.. the tears just streamed but no wailing or sound type crying. it was the start of the first chorus.. there was no holding back! *sigh. tears of love and but tears from missing my mom for 35 years now. i do miss her so. she would do things like grab me when i got home from school and she would have old rock-n-roll 50s and 60s music playing and all 4 burners going with dinner sizzling away making meals fit for a king and if i had books as i tried to pass her through the kitchen they fell to the floor and she whirled me around the room in a jitterbug. she taught me to do the jitterbug and loved to whirl me around. i would catch her singing this song in a low lilty voice quite often in passing though and is probably my most precious and prevalent memory of her. i wish everyone had such a sweet and tender mom as the one i had; i can't even imagine a spiteful, selfish or cruel mother but i know they are around and my heart goes out to anyone enduring maternal abuse. someday maybe i will tell you about my dad.. his middle name was Morris but all his HS friends called him Fritz.. but that's another story . anyway, i just wanted to share something very spiritual today for me and a few other very important things that made me who i am today ~from my heart of hearts to yours. sometimes when i cry i feel like it is my angels cleansing my soul so sometimes a little boo-hoo is a very healthy and a good and healing thing. anyway, i hope you find time to enjoy this version of this old old hymn... elvis presley, willie nelson and many other famous people sang it on their albums.. i think i have listened to every version of this that there is on youtube but, by far, the harmony of three like this touches me more. maybe it is just because i remember the way my sister, mom and i sounded together too. i don't know.. you decide . anyway this is the most beautiful version of this song i have ever found ~enjoy!

i am so blessed, now, to have heard back. i hope the young man and two women are doing more than abundant in their lives and you too. keep me in your prayers as i always will you Yorkali! oh so many things about my mother i would like to tell you. she was a simple homemaker but so much fun and full of her Lord and Savior's love that shined out always like a Light House to all. Here is a poem she wrote that i found that she just scratched on a piece of scratch paper one day (i have a burning desire now to share it with you!): Have you ever thought about the extravagance of God? More sky than man can see. More land than man can scale. More stars than man can ever count. More sea than man can sail. More intelligence than man can comprehend. More wisdom than man can grasp. More love than man can know. by my mother Lou Ella Like i said, she wasn't a writer at all but i found it one day under the wall phone scratched on an envelope. She didn't seem to know how great it was, as i told her so. She never wrote another poem that i know of, ever. She passed Sept.1, 1989 and i think i made a typo and that the 3 ~it should have been 2. Now it has been 27 years and i miss her still everyday every day. She always taught me from a young age two things: share your toys and, especially this i remember throughout adulthood helping me be a better person: "never judge a book by its cover." i told her one time "mama you're an angel without wings, you know that don't you?" and she giggled and asked me why i would say that. i didn't have an answer but i thought of one with my wit and mirthful side pretty quick, i said "because you would have to be to raise me." she just laughed and so did i and lots of hugs :) Peace~

I can understand what you're saying. The line that really bugs me is "the joy that we share no other has known". People don't come to God in their own ways. God comes to us first thru the life, death and resurrection of Christ. Saying that each individual has their own way of knowing the joy of Christ, is unbiblical. It makes salvation into a Gnostic type of knowing. And that's unbiblical.

Horrible song because we don't come to the garden alone. God draws us and saves us. This song represents an experiential, subjective truth claim. It's true because I felt it. Sorry it doesn't work that way. Salvation isn't found by an experience. This song is utter narcissism. I know the author meant well and those who like the song mean well but we don't come to God. No one seeks God. He comes to us. "the joy that we share no other has known? No no no, that's wrong.

The song is about a personal prayer experience. So sad that you've missed the point of the song!
@rorshakks
@rorshakks 3 жыл бұрын
@@lenarcher6997 I get what it's about. Listeners don't know it's necessarily about that so they take the lyrics as gospel truth and applicable to them and salvation in general. The lyrics are narcissistic; you've missed my point.
