I COMPLETELY REBUILD the front axle! DISASTER or NOT?! | Ep. 16

A pretty essential part of getting the Land Rover Defender out of the garage is a front axle. In this video, I show you step-by-step how I did the rebuild. Oh, and there are a few other things I had to fix. But, in a very, very short while, I WILL start the solo World Trip to Asia! Enjoy the video!

Oh man where do I even start with car repair struggles haha let me first find my 10 mm wrench and I will tell you all about it ;)

Legend has it that the 10mm wrench is capable of teleporting to another dimension, where it sits and laughs while we're looking for it 😂

This is almost EXACTLY the same as doing a Nissan Patrol, but everything is bigger and more robust on the Patrol (and a broken diff/shaft etc is basically unheard of)

Well.. in this case, I'm just following the Land Rover workshop manual. If it says, use it, I'll use it. And it specifies which one to use. Easy as that 😅

there's a few things you could have done differently, to make the job quicker and better, like using the press on the bearing cases, as that put the case in square rather than a lot of hammer work. Also you can put a single cut through an old case and then put that in the same way up so you can just pull it out, if you don't put the cut in, you can still knock out with a pin punch. use the press where possible, it does make a difference. As for the brake clips, take the hand brake off the transfer box, makes like a lot simpler as you can properly hold the pins.

The press is indeed quicker but using a hammer has the same result. You knock the bearing down, straight, onto the edge inside the hub. Also, a lot of viewers don't own a press, so this demonstrates that 'hammer time' is the perfect way to go. Removing the drum and handbrake cable is a lot of work as well so I decided to do it this way. Getting the special tool is the real time saver here 😁

Yeah those brake shoe spring clips are a right pain in the ass. The special tool only makes the job slightly easier. Great video. Great sense of humour.
