I understand that people want to lessen the stigma for HIV sufferers, but I'm afraid this "it's no longer a death sentence" is mistranslated into "don't bother with condoms and contraception, because a magic pill can cure HIV with no side effects!" which is clearly FALSE.

I was recently diagnosed with HIV and the few weeks after my diagnosis were the hardest, I wanted to take my own life because I felt disgusting and unwanted, why would someone want this? it makes me so angry, I got it from someone who didn't even know they had it and it was devastating for that person to find out and it breaks my heart that this is still a public health problem and the sigma that comes with it is unbearable!!!

I think people who want to contract HIV are mentally ill and need help. And I think there is no justifying wilfully contracting it because every person who contracts it increases the chance that someone who does not want it may contract it. And for a lot of people, contracting HIV is still a death sentence, in the sense that it feels like it ruins their lives and can make them suicidal.

There is a law haha. HIV transmission is the Offences Against the Person Act 1861 (OAPA 1861). People are prosecuted under the section on grievous bodily harm. There are two possible offences - reckless transmission (under Section 20) and intentional transmission (under Section 18).

My issue is that if this guy (or any that purposely want to be infected with hiv & do end up having hiv) have a medical emergency where they’re bleeding, need a surgery or even a simple blood draw then that exposes totally innocent bystanders & health care worker, ems etc. one accidental needle stick with their blood and that healthcare worker is potentially hiv positive now too & they cld be pregnant, have a spouse, kids etc. if a person is a smoker & that causes them to get lung cancer that cannot be spread to innocent people so therefore this is different & inexcusable, imo.

I am a gay man and this is all so alien to me. I have spent all my adult life being so scared of HIV. I cant understand why anyone would ever actively look for a disease like this. And my biggest issue of all is the pressure it puts on an already underfunded health service. I have known people who caught HIV (not willingly and it has in many cases ruined them as people, emotionally and psychologically), and they often feel guilty for the cost that their LIFELONG treatment will put on the NHS. I just dont understand this at all...and as for the "catching it takes the pressure off of the fear of catching it" is SO dumb!!!

Yes, agree with you. I saw friends go through hell in the 80's, and two friends lost their lives. This guy's attitude is reprehensible and should be illegal. Hes a potential murderer and should be stopped. The supposed consent he's speaking about, comes from mentally unwell people. It's illegal to take advantage of disabled people.

Sure he’s telling these people his status and having these conversations but what’s keeping the people you’ve now knowing infected from infecting others unknowingly because I doubt all of these people are waiting till they get tested (which can be up to 3 months until you are detectable) to have unprotected sex with another individual that are probably not participating in this fetish and derailing their lives forever theirs still a stigma around hiv so for someone to be purposefully doing this… I just can’t wrap my head around Ps I’m not demonizing the general populace that are hiv positive because these are still people, NORMAL people, in fact I’ve had/have friends that are undetectable and have had sex with people that are undetectable but this is not right the people that I have spoken to that have been personally affected by this is sad

FYI, being clinically undetectable does not mean you do not have circulating HIV in your bloodstream, which you do. When one undetectable has unprotected sex with another undetectable, BOTH partners realize an increase in their HIV serum levels because of the added introduction of HIV from the partner. This practice can turn both undetectables into people with detectable serum HIV levels, which presents an increased heath risk to both of them and any other partners they have. Science.

I can understand not wanting that constant fear of "when am I gonna catch HIV?" looming over their heads anymore, and even though I'm not gay I know there's nothing easy about going through that. Bug chasing is a mental illness. If you're starting to think you want HIV, please talk to a crisis line immediately and tell your doctor instead of willingly catching the disease
