a bit of trivia for ya. John said in an interview back when BSSM was released that he used his '57 goldtop reissue straight into the board for the solo's of I could have lied.

This is not true. He did use his Goldtop for some overdubs but the solo for I Could Have Lied is clearly a Strat. He didn’t go straight into the board for this solo either. It’s the Fender Hot practice amp for sure. You can even hear the built in reverb from that amp on John’s solo tone.

I’ll record a video of the solo with a Les Paul straight a Neve preamp so you can compare it to the Strat into the Fender amp. John did mention that he used a Les Paul into the console for some overdubs/solos but he didn’t say which solo exactly.

We’re actually quadruplets! The acoustic part sounds very different without that string so I decided to take it off. I had to adjust the bow of the neck though (that’s why the acoustic doesn’t have the truss rod cover in the video).
