As a Canadian, watching Jared poke holes in the frame thinking "Uh, you really want to be making this less safe to be under, lol?" Good ol' road salt, humidity and lack of frame treatment. This is why oil spray/undercoating is a big business in some places. Its why I am keeping my Armada good by keeping it undercoated/sprayed with oil, because I don't want to deal with frame rust.

My dad bought an 85 Camry brand new. Six years later, despite being dealership undercoated, it was a write-off due to serious structural rust. Annual inspection failed. It had maybe 60K miles and the engine ran still like a Swiss watch. Yes it was driven on Canadian winter roads, but well maintained and garage kept. We owned plenty of other cars over the years, in the same conditions, and never saw anything else like it in so short a time. I would have hoped by 2006, Toyota was better than this. He bought other Camry's and Celica's over the decades that resisted rust just fine. But those mid 80's import "J" Toyota's had real problems.
@billh2302 минут бұрын
Jared, I had a sort-of mantra when working on a restoration: "It's a restoration. They do that." Whatever goofy problem, that little quip forced my mind to think of what I had missed or goofed-up. Too bad for the extremely rusty frame. 4Runners sell at a premium out here in SoCal.

I concur with your assessment. Cars are not simply inanimate objects. they have personality, moods, temperaments, and if you learn how to listen enough, they can speak to you. either that or maybe I just have a few bolts loose myself.

People, don't forget to rust-proof your cars, even in USA! Here in Canada we do it yearly and it's still barely enough. The products to use are a mix of oil and wax, applied with a sprayer. It's very easy to do!
@squishy312Сағат бұрын
From what I know of, you should for sure try a scan tool and do a transmission reset if you can. I know Toyota's have the adapt relearns, and a hard reset (with new or rebuilt transmission) setting. It's usually in the toyota software where you find it. But a decent scan tool should find it. I had to do this on my RX300 2000 after I finally fixed it properly.

On rust belt cars the steel dowel pin will stick the aluminum transmission to the aluminum block. If the pins are accessible with the transmission installed (They are on a Subaru), punching on those does wonders to help the two separate.

J&J has a 2.7 out of a Boxster. There is always a LS. Or you could go with something very different, like a Rivian electric motor and battery. VQ engine? 3.6 Subaru flat 6 out of a Outback Aston v12? Likely would not fit. Your goal is a flip. So end of the project, you want to have a total price lower than what you can sell it for. I’d talk to Jake Raby at Flat 6 innovations about rebuilding the engine to a 4.0.

A serious comment from me for once. I'm so glad you at least technically mentioned the risk of hearing loss with the raycons.
